any MPC 500 users?

so i was in the market for a maschine when i saw that i could get an mpc 500 for not much more than an original maschine and less than maschine mk2.. but ive never used an mpc. is the 500 model a good one for someone just looking to add drums and maybe a quick effect here and there?

Yeah it is. I love mine even though a lot of people will say the limited display makes things a bit hard to edit I disagree. Keep an eye on the used market and you can snag one under $300 easy.

As someone looking to get an mpc next year, don't waste your money. Get a used 1000 mk2. Not the blue one. Or get maschine. You can sample vinyl thru the maschine too. All these limited entry level mpcs are not going to hold up for you for very long. You will want to upgrade quite quick. Therefor.. save a little more and spend it wisely on something you will use daily for years. I personally wouldn't even get a ren, I think that thing is castrating the whole crate digging vibe. But that's another matter.

Get a 1000 and be happy.

My humble opinion. What I'd do/gonna do after much research.

What's wrong with the blue one? Tempted to get one just for the sequencer (with JJOS).

Yo. Blue one has pad issues. That were corrected for the black 1000's. Sensitivity etc, thats why you will see blue 1000 go cheaper.

For JUST drums with a few simple FX, yes the MPC 500 can get you by. Barely. If you need it for performing live I'd be careful. Some of the sample loading/saving can be buggy on the 500.

The 1000 is a better buy if you are looking for more than just basic drums.

I upgraded to the 1000 with JJOS and it's good...

(BUT has anyone else noticed the timing, swing, and FX sync in the 1000 with JJOS is slightly off? Don't know if it's possible or if it's just me or what, but sometimes even a simple 4/4 kickdrum beat sounds slightly off and jittery, even when fully quantized.

I never felt this on the MPC 500, as limited as that was, basic beats and swing were rock solid.)

Granted, I may be the exception but I've used my 500 for years and never considered upgrading to a 1000 or the other newer MPC's. If anything I've considered "downgrading" to an SP-303 as I rarely ever use the sequencer on the 500 or bothered to look into any deeper features.

For just grabbing, pitching, effecting and triggering samples it's ace.

If OP is just looking to add some drums and sound effects to his existing set up I think the 500 fits this roll perfectly.

Now if he's looking to go deep or sequence external gear or something that's an all together different story.
