HELP!! TROUBLE WITH ROLAND 404 spd files

hi
so i have the roland 404 (compact flash) sampler and the Roland 404 SX. Im trying to get the files from the CF to the SX because my 404CF stopped playing the audio.
anyway,
I inserted the CF card into a card reader and hooked it up to my new Mac book pro.
When i open the card reader, there's no "root" folder, only the "ROLAND" folder and everything is in ".spd" extensions. no WAV files anywhere.
I downloaded the WAV CF-->WAV SX conversion software from roland...but obviously i need the WAV files for it to work.

NOW when i put the CF back into the 404, it doesnt recognize the card. when i press the 4 buttons for each card bank they don't react, light up, flash or anything.

very confusing. i did "copy" the .spd files from the card onto a folder on my desktop but still no "WAV" files anywhere.

ugh!! sucks!
