I dunno ... In some ways Kraftwerk is as far from ROCK as possible while still being in the same galaxy ... Probably just lucky to be nominated ...

And still, their influence cannot be denied on any band that went beyond drums, guitars and vocals ...

I was very pleased to read about this ...

I agree they ate quite removed from Rock and Roll. What's interesting is all the connections. I recall an interview where Kraftwerk state how they were influenced by the Beach Boys. They said something to the effect of when they hear the BeachBoys they think of California. Kraftwerk then tried to recreate that idea to portray Germany. (I am paraphrasing here) or being sampled by AfrikaBamBata.

I think they needed to put 500 bands in right away, then start the annual process.

All this time and still:
No Steppenwolf, T Rex, Barry White, ELO, Steve Miller Band, Nilsson, Moody Blues, DICK DALE !!, Link Wray, The Clovers?
No Ronnie James Dio, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, The Scorpions, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi or Slayer?

NO Meters, Smiths, Cure, Chic, Chicago, Freddie King, or Sonic Youth.

C'mon man!

I suppose Kraftwerk don't want to have anything to with rocknroll or this R'n'R hall of fame, whatever that is.

Agreed but the biggest disappointment in hearing Kraftwerk's nomination was the total and complete over site of Klaus Nomi.

The problem with those bands is that they're quite imitative. All rock is to a certain extent but nothing stands out for me with those quys.

I'm just glad Rush finally got nominated and there's a lot of hype that they'll finally get in. True originals.

Show me who Dick Dale imitated, please.

And if that was the criteria then a lot of people who are in would be out.

True enough. I kind of glossed over him. And for all the garbage that's in there (Red Hot Chili Peppers, seriously?) he deserves to be there as well. But while it was a big thing for a couple of decades, does anyone care about surf rock now? I mean it pokes its head out from time to time but Rush and Kraftwerk had far greater influence on the music industry.

They should also maybe start ramping up the number of bands getting in. A lot of the most influential bands of the 50s, 60s and 70s aren't going to be around much longer.

Except for the Meters, and maybe Dick Dale and Link Wray.
