My Voyager's keyboard just died

As in title - Electric Blue model. For no reason - the keyboard just stopped working. I can still play the instrument via MIDI and external controller but the keyboard is just dead. I checked the local control settings. Even updated the os. No luck. I email moog but its weekend... Any ideas?

Peace
m

Sounds like you covered anything I would test, without opening it up. Local control off is the only obvious thing I can think of. Do the pitch and mod wheels still work? I would assume that they are on a separate connection, but you never know.

This happened to me once and it turned out that the keyboard scanner had gone bad.

It happened to mine when it was still owned by the previous owner, he said it turned out to be a pinched ribbon cable. Guess that can happen if the panel is moved a lot, into and out of a case on tour etc

If you have not tried (I guess you have, but anyhow this solved a problem to me on my Voyager that occurred this week when I did something I was not aware of, probably a cable or pedal wrong connected and the Voyager was just humming on all patches and controllers):Remove all cables, turn it off and then on again.

I had the pinched ribbon cable problem also with my Voyager when I first got it nearly ten years ago. It went back to MoogMusic for repair under warranty, has been fine ever since.

Thanks people - I will try all the above. My instrument just sits on a stand in a studio, so no moving around at all. I will see what Moog support says before I attemp to open it, although I did it once already installing the VX expansion...
Cheers

Did some more experiments and its weird - I connected the midi out to my midisport interface and it seems that it does not send note on messages - pitchbend, modwheel and aftertouch sends midi thru midi out. Any ideas what this could mean?

There are different parameters for different types of MIDI at the MIDI local page. I guess you have noticed that, but if not....

If aftertouch is working I have hard to believe that it is a lose cable inside the cabinet - I guess it's the same cable for aftertouch and note on that goes to the MIDI out (but I'm not sure, just making a qualified guess).

Yeah - I double checked the local settings - everything is on. It sends the other values to MIDI out port but maybe there is a different chip/cable delivering to the internal module? Well I guess I have to wait for Moogs response. Thanks for suggestions anyway.

I have nothing useful to add here, except that I have the exact same problem. I've decided I just have to pay to get it fixed.

Moog probably has somebody more local that can service your Voyager. If they don't, maybe they will cover shipping.

I have no desire to send it overseas, and my nearest "approved" centre is in another state. But I have a guy here who is a professional analogue synth repairer, so I'll eventually take it to him. For the moment, it's just a MIDI rig in my studio.... (which is still pretty useful).

I'd like to think so, except mine is long out of warranty.

I no longer have a Voyager so I might be wrong about this, but from memory, two bound cables come from the tilted panel - one goes to the left hand controller (LHC) and the other to the keybed. There is then another cable that goes from the keybed to the LHC for aftertouch, because the LHC contains the aftertouch circuit (this was upgraded at some point for an improved response).

That means that if the cable between the tilted panel and keybed is damaged it could explain why the aftertouch still works (aftertouch control goes by a different cable via the LHC). Might not be that though. A connector could have fallen out, but I would expect such connections to be either locking or sealed by silicon glue so I think that is unlikely.

Best to see what Moog say. Hope you get it sorted soon!
