Voyager rack. Has it gone up in price (Uk)?

I was telling a muso acquaintance recently that he could pick up a Voyager rack for £1600 in the UK. He got back to me and said he couldnt find one for less than £2100. Right enough I cant find one for £1600 but I am certain less than a year ago I saw them for that price new.

Was I dreaming or have they gone up in price, and if so any ideas why? Imo £2100 is to expensive for it. I have one but I got in a synth money exchange so didnt buy it new.

I understand the price of stuff goes up (although not in all cases). It just seems the extra 500+ from what it was last year is quite a large hike. But then again maybe I was wrong about the price of it last year.

No you are right some places were selling them at £1450 about 18 months ago.

Mine was £1350 3 or 4 years ago. I think exchange rates and VAT,etc have a lot to do with the UK pricing changes.

Yes, IME over the past 3 or 4 years imported goods went up about 1/3 in price (as the pound lost value in comparison to other currencies)...also 2.5% VAT increase. Equipment seems much cheaper in the US than UK.

My Recordings/Credits

Yep, Sweetwater (in the US) used to have them for $2200, now the RME is going for $2700. WOW.

My acquaintance just bought it today. He couldnt get a penny more than 50 quid off the price. Moog, like Mackie have a high retailer cost leaving little room for stores to do deals. I felt a bit of an idiot claiming to him they could be had for 1600 but at least it wasnt my imagination. Thanks for all your replies

Moog instruments are still manufactured in the U.S. I believe, but I'm betting most if not all of the ICs that go into them are still made in Asia. That region was hit with a double whammy last year - the earthquake in Japan, followed by the floods in Thailand, both of which heavily impacted manufacturing of all sorts of electronic components. As a result, prices went up across the board for a whole bevy of gear (digital cameras being the one I've seen the biggest increase for). I wouldn't be surprised though to never see these prices come back down.
