EMU Vintage Keys factory presets mismatch

Hello,

I dusted off my old EMU Vintage Keys module and decided to reset the original factory presets. So, I initialized the synth using the diagnostics menu.

However, when browsing through the presets, I've noticed that at least 2/3 of the factory presets listed in the manual are different or missing. There are 127 presets from 0 and all of them are repeated from 256, but that's it. The rest are -Default-.

I've checked other versions of the manual online, but haven't found even a similar preset list. Does anybody have any explanation for this?

Thanks.

Download a .syx file with the factory presets.

Good thinking, but I don't find my factory presets in the Plus manuals either. For example I have a factory preset named 'Dance Stab', which is nowhere to be found in any manual or sysx file.

Well, thanks, but I don't want to overwrite my factory presets, I'd just like to understand why they are so different.

Hi, i seem to have the same problem after replacing the battery
and doing a factory reset, and uploading what I think are the
Plus factory presets on a machine that's not a Plus.
I bought this thing used and I didn't
care for the presets that were on it, I think I will try to reload
it with the right sysex file (the Plus one can be download as
vknew.syx and the Vintage Keys one as vkold.syx

By the way, you mention the Plus manual, which I didn't manage
to find. Can you post an URL ?

Those old Proteus modules have factory presets in ROM. When shipped there are different presets in RAM. When you re-intitialize the ROM presets get copied to RAM and you lose the original presets there. Look for an .syx file to get those presets back.

Oops, I can't seem to find it anymore, though I'm pretty sure I saw it somewhere... I may be mistaken.

I replaced the battery in my Vintage Keys Plus today, but all the memory was lost. Where are the files available on-line? What equipment will I need and what is the procedure for downloading the files back into the unit?

Here's the link for the manuals and .syx files for all the old Proteus modules. Looks like Creative finally got their act together : E-MU Systems - Legacy Support

Thank you! But I'm still lost. They offer two preset files, named 'old' and 'new', but neither contains the presets that I have in my unit...

transfering files

Anybody know of a step-by-step how to process to transfer the files from my PC to my sound module? Or know of anyone who can show me (I live in Baltimore, MD). I seem to have all the necessary hardware/software, but lacking any sort of 'what to do next' after I interface everything.

I have the Midi-OX software... thought it was some sort of 'Wizard' type thing (select this, click on that, etc). But like I said if anyone with experience or can point me in the right direction that would be most helpful. Is what I'm requesting just not done anymore? Hard to believe there isn't someone on any of these forums that hasn't done this or knows somebody that actually has experience.
