I have my dog, named Hustle, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier I had from the dog pound when he was a small puppy (they didn't tell me which breed he was, they acted like they don't know and told me "oh some sort of sheppherd" LOL).
I trained him to be a perfect studio dog, he NEVER touches anything that belongs to me. If his toy is among the cables, he'll look at a way to take it without touching the cables or he'll show me the issue. If I put a MPC or something near him, he will never touch it too.
But I have to admit that at first he chewed few cables and we (the dog and I) took some lessons from a specialist (if the dog messes everything, it's a 50/50 responsability between you and the dog), so I learned to correctly interact with him and he learned to calm down (he had some issues related to dogpound cause he has been abandoned when he was a very young puppy, the vet told me I couldn't do anything with him).
And he knows that when I mix or compose, he must not disturb me.
Also he would easily shred any intruder.
Of course, for him to be that awesome, I take him out everyday for running and I give him a lot of attention.
two puppies, a retriever and a jack russell, lived together near a park where I worked a few years ago.
They were impossibly energetic (not to mention funny): the retriever would run along passed balls, and the jack russell literally RAN CIRCLES around him, challenging him.
The poor retriever went crazy, trying to get control of the balls AND of the jack russell at the same time.
I dare not to imagine what dealing with them in a home was
no not together? Had the GR first for around 6? years. After he was put to sleep, around a year later we got a jack russell for a few years. Gave him away to an old lady who seemed to collect them.
The retriever was pretty well behaved overall, the Jack Russell did like to chew stuff in the house (parts OF the house). Actually we also had a whippet for a while, weirdo dog - like a mini greyhound 8-)
This is one of the best takes I've heard on the issue:
"I love cats. I've always loved cats, and I don't like people who explain that they don't like cats, because usually when they do explain they don't like cats they're really explaining what insecure assholes *they* are.
Guys don't like cats because they're insecure *********s, and they're always like, 'Hey, when you call a cat, it doesn't come. When you walk in, it's not happy to see you. When I come home, I got a Golden Retriever, and that dog's tail is wagging, and he's happy to see Daddy.'
And it's like, how much ****ing validation do you need from this creature that's going to live for seven and a half years and has a brain the size of a ****ing walnut, who shits in front of other dogs, and then sniffs their asses, like...really? How much validating do you need, or validation do you need, from your *pet*?
You know what I mean? Like, 'It's so happy to see me. And he's excited when I come home. And he's-' He's what? He's a ****ing dog. What? How about you get some ****ing validation from your coworkers, from your peers, what are you worried about your dog for?
I love that about cats. You walk in, the cat's sitting where you sit, on your chair, looks up and goes 'Welcome home, asshole,' and then looks back down and falls asleep again. That's it."
Dog - stiff; Cat - flexible
Dog - coarse; Cat - fine
Dog - paws; Cat - hands, basically, plus retractable claws
Cats are profound objects of aesthetic contemplation apart from any of their characteristics as individuals. I also like that they are 100% hardcore stone cold murderers.
Always turns into a cat versus dog discussion... I love both. I actually disagree with Brainchild. Cats give plenty of validation, but usually only to one person, who they more or less see as their mother. They don't really care about other people, that's true. But every cat I've had has been super excited to see me even if I've just been out of the house for 5 minutes, they would come to meet me at the door and roll over. It's just hard to see for people who have never had cats. They also don't really get to see it when they visit someone with a cat, the cat is usually a bit jumpy with strangers around and won't be on his best behavior.
I've learned that cats naturally have different personality types. Finding the right one to match your preferences and personality is the key between hating the cat or loving it. The local SPCA here helps with the matching process. Great idea !
Like dogs, they are highly perceptive of an individual.

i agree, my cat is all over me when i come home.. and if i don't pay attention to him right away he lets me know it.
i disagree about them not caring about other people. i have had many cats that are all too happy to make friends, once they see the person can be trusted. if anything, cats on the whole are more cautious than dogs; they want to ensure you are not a threat even if they have experience with people... whereas dogs are more likely to be friendly to strangers, unless abused/neglected or trained otherwise.
he interacts with all visitors once he gets to know them, and wants to play all the time, not only "when he's bored" as some others have suggested.
cats and dogs have senses that allow them to "feel" the emotions of people, even though their communication systems are so radically different from ours. so, if some ****** who "doesn't like cats" comes around with a negative attitude, the cat will avoid them. i would too.
One funny thing that is said about cats (and is true in my experience) that they will always want to sit on the lap of a person that hates them haha. It is probably that independendent mindset that makes some of us adore them so much.
Both cats and dogs are usually very aware of the mental state of humans (especially their owners/family) and that might be another thing that makes us like them - someone is taking part of our inner lifes. And if somone is now offering me a hug I will send my pugs after him!
I don't own any cats, allergic, but there are about five for six stray bastards that live behind the studio. These are my favorite kind of cats, they don't give a f**k about you- try to pet them and .... don't think it would be a good idea.
"After further consideration I have decided to retract the Executive VP position offered to you. Rather, I shall absorb such duties in conjunction with my existing CEO responsibilities. Good day sir.."
Mom or dad should not have let that happen. Junior learned either way, better young than old. Never hit an animal , they never forget, and all the trust vaporizes. Hopefully the poor cat didn't end up being punished by the folks behind the camera.

I wont judge the parent on this short clip alone. Out of context we don't really know. But I do agree, this should not have happened. Anyhow that kid was in distress and angry, and did not learn how to deal with it yet. LOL at the cat not to take any BS. That kid totally deserved it.
If I would not be a cat person, poodle would be my next best thing. They must be about the smartest dogs out there. Too bad they have become more of a fashion statement. Poodles are cool!

I replaced the cooling system on my car by myself... does that count as guy shit?
no.
Mauve-painted Hybrid Renault Twinkos are not considered legitimate "cars" west of Bordeaux, north of Perpette-les-Bains and South of the Cannes Croissant.
Croisette, whatever.

ta-dah! Here I am, Match-Maker Egregious!
In case the "Bunny" Pet Rock is too manly, noisy and exhuberant for your fragile nerves, a "Dead Jellyfish" version is also available.
