What does the Virus excel at?

I've seen the Virus held in high regard for trance but that's not my kind of thing. I'm looking for a straight up pad/ambience/texture machine to fill in the gaps of my tracks. I wouldn't mind it taking care of other stuff too though. Is that what you think it excels in?

Lots of things, but pads, textures and FX are at the top of my list.

It's only popular for trance because it comes pre-loaded with a boatload of trance presets.

But yeah, pads/ambience/texture? No problem whatsoever.

It excels at being versatile.

I mostly use it for complex or raw sounds i just can't make with any other synth i use.

The Virus is a great synth.

It can go so beyond trance. For what you seek and ask for it is perfect.

I have made some great percussive sounds with it, stabs and leads. The Virus can cover allot of ground. My fav digital synth by far.
I would highly recommend the TI series since it runs very well now days with a computer. Years ago maybe not but now it is very stable I find.

Well, one thing is does NOT excel at is being able to use the TI software properly and without latency that renders it useless.

Speak for yourself. Has worked fine for me on 3 different systems, 2 different platforms, Polar and Snow.

Really. Maybe on your computer but not on mine. Depends on the user/system/platform/set-up, IMO. I'm using a Gateway Intel Core i5, 4GB DDR3, Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit going to a Digi-002 via Firewire card. Total Integration with OS ver 4.0 inside of Ableton Suite 8.2 works perfectly running a session with 20 or so different softsynths/audio at the same time.

its good for any modern Virusy like sound. Good quality VA with nice snappy envelopes. The basic Osc are not very fat and the filter I always thought had a slightly mean/dark tone to it...but does any sound you need really

For me it's pretty much everything except for really thick and heavy and/or resonant basslines and leads. It does digital and polyanalog type stuff marvelously.
