5 volt gate signal. What if I give more?

Never been good with applied electronics. So i am wondering what harm I could do to an analog machine that needs 5 volts as a trigger if i feed it more or way more than that.Reason says it can't be good but is it the case? Can i get away with it & if so, how much more I can apply before sending my module/synth/sequencer to 7th heaven?

Many of the synths actually accept both the 5V and 12V trigger. And i doubt someone would dare to design a synthesizer that can not accept 12V trigger. It would make no sense, because so much old gear is standardized at 12V.

Thank you Don!So it's safe to trigger e Eurorack 5-volt module with 12 volts. The reason i got anxious was because i saw somewhere a device that converted higher voltages to 5 volts for "triggering Eurorack modules" & that set the alarm.

Ask manufacturer of the module.

In case anyone else is interested in this i contacted Herr Dieter Doepfer & he told me that all Doepfer modules are happy with trigger voltages of up to 12V, as Don Solaris suggested.
