Pluck bass sample like this

Hi! I tried to post this on KVR but didn't get any good answers on how to make it.. I'm obviously failing at it..

I just bought the complextro package from Joe Zay, and I noticed that he samples the weirdest samples and processes them to make awsome basslines and stuff.

Complextro automation - YouTube

If you look on the video that I uploaded, he modulates/automates the EQ in such a way the bass gets plucky, how do I achieve this effect? I've tried to copy it and make it myself, but it just don't get as plucky as his, actually.. when I do it, it doesn't sound close at all, I'm not even getting the pluck effect, just the filter effect, it's really weird.

Any tips? look at the video and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

bass eq test - YouTube

This is what happens when I try it myself.

It kind of sounds like a normal volume stutter or something.. so I'm not really getting WHAT makes that plucky thing, I've looked up the settings on the sample itself aswell in the simpler and as you notice I have pitch enabled, to get that pitch envelope type of pluck sound..

PS. Excuse the sounds the in the background, it's from my stupid little brother on skype..

what am I doing wrong?

Answers are highly appreciated! Thanks.

Are you just modulating the EQ on a continuous sample? What he is doing in the video is he is re-triggering the sound every time, and modulating the EQ with automation at the same time. The sample he uses has a plucky sound in itself which does not some from modulating the EQ with automation. Plucky sounds come from having non-linear filter envelopes. Are you using a sample to trigger your sound or does it come from a synth?

Hey, thanks for answer!

I've checked the sample he's using for the bass. Here it is:

Zippyshare.com - flip.aif

this is the sample he used for the leads aswell etc.

Then he used some distortion after and modulated the startpoint of the sample a tiny bit.

He also did as you say, added a pitch envelope. Which I did in my example aswell. The same amount even.

Mine is a synth sample which I distorted aswell and did the same EQing modulation on, or similar atleast.

But what do you mean with re-triggering the sound everytime modulating the EQ with automation at the same time?

Thanks for answers, appreciate it alot!
