Cassius "Sound of Violence" Bass Synth Sound

Hey,

I'm trying to re-create the bass synth sound from Cassius' "Sound of Violence" with mixed results. I can achieve a ball parkish sound with the Korg MS-20 plugin but I'd like to get really close. It sounds like an MS-20 kinda sound to me but i've heard they used an SE-1 for bass on that record too. Anyone think they can point me in the right direction as far as oscillator type and other setting go? Any help greatly appreciated as i've reached the limit of my knowledge on this one.

Many thanks.

Shove just about any bass sound through something like a Thermionic Culture Vulture and you'll get a sound like that

If you don't have access to Culture Vulture perhaps try Decapitator to get that phat but more "old school"(?) distortion.

Love that song. It's great to drop at electro house shows, all the kids go "what is this this is awesome"...

I'd start by using something more Moogish, the SE1's sort of based on that (but it has its own particular character that is unlike the D and unlike the Voyager). Add drive - keep it subtle though.

not that mad about that bass sound...bit too much drive on it for me and its quite rough/raw sounding...but sure you could get pretty close with 3 Moog Sawtooth Osc, crank up the feedback, and an open filter on Diva and maybe put Decapitator on afterwards...

Thanks for all the suggestions on this so far! I'll mess around with this today and try and post some results later on. You're all reckoning its sawtooth Osc's then? ...seems pretty cranked to me too in a kinda bit-reduced way. Listen here
