A Problem for the Pro's....

I can't seem to figure out the problem, so I am coming to you guys--you always seem to help me out.

I created this bass synth that in one certain modulation makes this clicking sound and I have no idea where it comes from. I've checked everything I can think of from over modulation to input/output overloading to resonance and idk what the problem is. It blends in more or less in the rest of the mix and kind of forms another percussion sound but my ear hears it and hates it and it needs to be gone.

This synth is a big part of my next project so if anyone can figure this out or offer ideas/opinions it would be a great contribution.

impossible to tell without a screenshot of the settings
slow the attack a little bit, mostly that's the remedy.

well i'm no pro, so please excuse my replying... but in addition to the attack, have you checked the release? i only ask because i was getting the same thing the other night and was about to put my head through the table as i had checked all other parameters except release on the EG and sure enough, moving it from the "0" position to 3 or so fixed it. this was on a DE.

not sure if that helps you...

the attack and release are considerably slow. they are irrelevant in this situation because it is just two whole notes put through a performer (shown above). perhaps it is the attack on the performer?

Take a look at the output sections of Enigma and Rverb. Did you notice the
red clipping lights ?
I don't own them but from what I know those lights should not be lit.
Try to lower the ouput of Massive a bit until these red lights are gone.

Thank you, but the clipping still exists with all plugins bypassed. It has something to do with the performer settings I believe. But how do I change the effet while still maintain that gate effect? is there an external plugin that anyone recommends that creates this effect?

wack a spectrometer on the channel and see if it's clipping, it it is EQ. If it isn't it could be a software issue then your reduced to changing settings to see if you can get away from the click.

nothing is clipping :/ i wish it were that easy lol. i am pretty sure that it has something to do with the performer and the attack/release on that, but you cannot adjust those in massive. i can turn off the performer and run it through a gate/sequencer effect, but idk any...does anyone recommend a good one??

I use an analog prophet08 for synthesis. I run into the same problem from deep modulation routings. ...Do you have DELAY on anything ENV/OSC/MODS.

EX: I would get a click-ish element if i routed ENV3-Lowpass filter and started increasing the delay of ENV3. I would then need to adjust the ATK of ENV3 so the 'cutoff-or-end' isnt so abrupt.

It may simply be a DECAY running its course and not having enough RELEASE to make it smooth. If you have lots of OSC + MODS + LFO's going on there are going to be 'points were everything overlaps (or whatever the right term is) even just for a few ms.

my advice would be to look at all the processes you have going on in this patch. Smoothen out the start and end of these processes. This is assuming you understand basic synthesis and this isnt a post about a preset (didnt read the entire post+reply's)

Hope this helps-peace

I get whiteish noise from approx. sec. 9 in your sample ...
???
So I don´t really hear your clicks.

Basic info: Reverb (and maybe bitcrushing) tend to add clicks on very fast attacks, releases and maybe decays.

Obviously "stepped" sequencing will do the same.

Why is the performer (mod 7) not doing anything (empty sequence)while routed at max amount to cutoff?

The enigma thingie at the top left corner of the second screenshot looks scary: Adding a serious feedback at approx. 1 kHz will make any clicking in the sound a lot louder.
