Altimate Support AX90 users... have you had any problems with your stand?

Hi Guys,

I'm currently trialling two column synth stands: the Konig and Meyer Spider Pro, and the Ultimate Support Apex AX90.

The K&M is much lighter and seems very stable, but I'm worried about the way the feet work, because they could be quite unstable on an uneven surface.

So I'm now thinking I will keep the AX90.

The thing is incredibly solid, everything's made of metal... except I have one worry. The part where the beams that hold the synth connect into the stand itself are made of plastic! This almost seems ridiculous when everything else is so solid and the stand is so heavy!

So my question to existing AX90 owners is... have you had any reliability issues with your AX90? Do you have really heavy synths on one or both tiers (such as a Roland Fantom G8 or a Kurzweil PC3x... something between 25 and 35kg)?

I'm really impressed by the construction of the whole stand, but those plastic clipping sections really worry me!

Any feedback, positive or negative, would be welcomed!

Thanks heaps!
Mike

Ive toured with both stands. The AX90 is built like a tank and I love it. I never had any issue with the K&M stands either they were always very sturdy and stable. The only issue with the AX90 is the the rubber grips tent to get stuck when you put them in the tube during fast setups and tear downs. Im using only the AX90 now because I really like the looks. They kinda look like the evil robots on doctor who.

Hey, thanks heaps for this feedback!

I've noticed that the AX90 (which I currently have on loan from the music store) is completely made of metal except the clips that link the actual arms into the body of the stand.

Have those ever caused you any problem? They seem to be made of plastic, and I don't know how they could reliably hold heavy synths year in year out!

Would love your feedback on this particular part of the design. (And also... what synths do you have on yours? Are they both heavy?)

Cheers,
Mike
