Kawai K5000 demo

I've had Kawai K5000s for some time now, so I tought it would be interesting to capture some self created patches and combis. So, here's a demo:

http://freemp3host.com/play:8507

The recording chain is basic simple: K5000s -> Mackie BlackJack -> Tracktion3

Enjoy!

Great job Sir! I'm a huge Kawai fan yet the ever elusive K5000s escapes me every time I look for one!

Some slight clipping in some places, but the sounds... pure digital heaven!

I really want those sounds. My K5000s is on the way, due to arrive in a couple of weeks. Relis, Would you be kind to share those sounds? :-D

Listening to that mp3 was ... listening to 11:11 of digital awesome.

Nice demo. I have one of these but never seemed to really bond with it. It does a phenomenal electric guitar so it is my go to for that patch but I use other stuff for pads. Do you have a memory expansion in yours? Do you use Alchemy at all? I would be interested in how you compare them. I got a lot of "out of memory" errors when I was trying to put together some more complex patches and it got frustrating to me.

I really should spend some more time with mine. I got it because I felt the additive synth capabilities would be nice to have OTB also. It definitely is a really playable keyboard.

Nice sounds. I love my k5ks. Thought I heard some psychedelic furs in your demo.

Yes, I haven't got grip with my new recording equipment yet so there's the reason. Thx

Of course. PM me.

Yes, I do. Still, I have to rewrite some bad presets all the time. Not enough space. In combo mode, mixing two sounds with PCM sources gives you 8 voice of polyphony. If one used preset uses additive synthesis, you have 7 voices.

Still, what can you do, it's not that bad...

No, sorry.

True. It took me some time to adjust after years of playing lighters keys, but now it feels superb. Dynamics, aftertouch.. great quality keyboard.

Great job.

I owned a K3R back in the day and I've been stalking either one of these or a Yamaha AN1x, both to no avail recently....market on both seems to have improved for some reason.

Kraftwerk supposedly used K5000s on one of their tours and maybe an album or two.

Yep I spotted a K5000 in their setup when I saw them in SF in 1998...

K5000 is a nice board. Thanks for posting that!

Hope you don't mind, but here is a K5000s track that I submitted to Harmony Central a long time ago - had to be one synth only. It's multi-tracked to an ADAT (yes it was a while ago...)

Yes, the keyboard is outstanding.

I have one patch (IceScream or something - not made by me) where the aftertouch controls a ½ step bend down.

You can actually play the aftertouch on this keyboard.

I think it's one of the most elegant looking synths ever!

I was able to contact the person that makes the ME-1 memory expansion boards for the K5000S and they are available. I just paid 80 Euros so hopefully I will have one in short order so that the synth will be a lot more useable.

Here is a link for anyone interested:

A guy had a mint one near me on CraigsList for a really great price. I should have bought it but I do not use the few synths I have.

When you get older you have some money, less time and less inspiration.

Late reply (just linked from another thread). I've used that ME-1 upgrade for a few (?) years now. It's been flawless. The seller was really good to work with too. Helpful and responsive. I heard all good reports from others on the Yahoo list as well.

I actually found the mem upgrade more useful than I had expected. It makes juggling patches a lot easier. This is handy when loading whole banks (patch at a time dumps are too much hassle really). It also makes things easier when checking out other user's banks/multis, which reference the additional memory.

PS. I had to push pretty hard on the connector to get it to click into place correctly. I wouldn't normally use that much force on electronics. It was just a tight fit. However, the connector is also holding the PCB in place (don't think I used any other hardware retention, from memory).

+1. I have the same upgrade and had the same experience.

I just got my ME-1 expansion, and I concur. Bernward is great to deal with, and the expansion is easy as 1-2-3.

I agree totally that Bernwald is excellent to deal with. The expansion came very quickly and went in flawlessly. Be aware that he cannot ship it with the lithium battery it needs cause that is not allowed in shipments to the US. It doesn't matter because it is a very common battery you can get in any drugstore for about 5 dollars.

It does make a huge difference to the K5000S for creating and storing your own patches. Worth every penny and nice to support a cool person doing it.

Kawai is one of the most underrated old school synth companies IMO
