Live hardware synth latency issues

Hi all! - I have a live tech question, so I hope this is the right place to pitch it (apologies if not!) - I'm currently working with a dance/electronic band, but with the emphasis on playing as much "live" as possible. Due to the nature of the genre, we want everything as tight as possible, and so we have a click for the drummer and sequenced FX for vocals being provided by Ableton Live on a Macbook; but it would be ideal to have most, if not all the hardware synths we use live clocked up too, for arpeggiators, or onboard delays, tap-tempo changes etc... patch data or anything else is not all that important, improvisation is a huge part of what we do, so sounds change all the time - it's really just the clock that needs to link everything.

To note, my live rig alone uses 6 hardware synths (please forgive the Keith Emmerson aspirations...), and there are another 2 and a Kaossilator Pro that ideally would be receiving the same clock information from Ableton.
The obvious thing to do would be daisy-chain them using Thru, but I'm aware that the latency would be atrocious - do any of you wonderful people have any suggestions as to how to make this possible? (I know recording everything in the studio then playing one part live on a controller would be MUCH easier, but that kinda defeats the object of what we're trying to do!) Thanks in advance guys!

The latency via 'thru's' will be negligible. (especially if it's a hardware thru.. Ie the synth has in,out & thru)

The thru circuit basically takes the input and spits it out.. The latency, if you can call it that, is a result of the opto isolator 'smearing' the signal slightly.. And we are talking about F all.. Anyone who can hear that 'latency' in isolation deserves a medal.

Hope that clarifies another MIDI myth.

for a tight clock from the MBP use Innerclock Solutions machines.
Where can i buy a INNERLOCK SYNC GEN? I am in the USA!
for a cool midi arpeggiator/filter/sequencer/etc. use Midipal.

if you're using midi for busy note and CC information (automation, arpeggiators) get a midi patchbay, so you don't have to daisy chain everything.

EDIT: agree on the above post, BUT....... if it's NOT a hardware Thru then your timing is toast at the end of the chain.

But if you really don't want to use 'thru' then a midi patchbay would be your solution.

Cheers

You can also check Expert Sleepers Silent Way plug-in suite and ES hardware interfaces. They can provide sample precision and jitter free MIDI out and MIDI clock. The way all of this works is a bit unconventional but it works nicely.
