Live Vocoder in Reaper

Hi guys, basically I've got a microphone, a midi keyboard (and lots of soft synths), and Reaper, and I'd like to know how to get the vocoder to work live. i.e. I'm playing the keyboard and singing and I want my computer to output the vocoded signal, as I do so (not including latency obviously). I've read heaps of tutorials on the topic but they don't seem to be working for me.

Could someone give me a step by step list of what to do from scratch? I would be incredibly grateful

Set up 3 tracks:
1.) Live Input (Input: Mic)
2.) Synth (Input: Midi)
3.) Vocoder

Now uncheck the routing of Track 1 & 2 to the masterbus in the "routing matrix"
Then send track 1 & 2 to track 3, one to 1-2 and one to 3-4. (right click on the send icon)
(Not sure which one is carrier and modulator, but there's an inverse checkbox on the vocoder in case its wrong)

Make sure Rec-armed and monitoring (that little speaker icon) are checked on both tracks.

Go!

Did that make sense?

Sorry for not replying to this earlier... thanks for the great instructions, it worked fantastically! I guess I just didn't see why there would need to be record monitoring on for the vocal track (why wouldn't an audio track be able to send audio information anyway? I understand why a midi synth would need record monitoring however)
:D

Hey guys, I'm having a little difficulty with the vocoding as well. This is my first post with gearslutz, as I've joined the boards just to comment on this thread. I'm using Reaper 4.31, and I've got my tracks set up how evosilica described. I've got the vocal/mic input on track 1, my keyboard set up as a MIDI instrument on track 2, and a third track for the vocoder.

I have the master/parent sends disabled on both tracks 1 and 2. Channels 1 and 2 on the vocal track are being sent to vocoder track channels 1 and 2. Channels 1 and 2 of the MIDI keyboard track are being sent to vocoder track channels 3 and 4.

I've armed both the vocal and the MIDI keyboard tracks, but I'm not getting the effect. In fact, I stopped hearing the MIDI keyboard track, although when I play, I can see the level indicators jump up.

Any suggestions?
