My brother has an IQ of 160, with my mom also being in the Mensa society (officially). I never bothered to join, but regardless of my families IQ, my bro loves this sh*t, along with Justin Bieber. My little brother (another brilliant little f*cker) likes Lady Gaga.
Sometimes he likes a good glass of expensive Port and going to the symphony.
Totally freaking relative and think, man people take this stuff way too seriously.
He is way successful because of his capacity to have a team to create stuff that is so polarizing (loved/hated).
If your an 'artist' and want to have your own voice, there is A LOT to learn from these guys....
Something should annoy the crap out of someone. If everything thinks your stuff is 'good' or 'neat' or even 'wow' then your doing something wrong.
Even back in the day Beethoven's music was very controversial, but these sh*t heels making this gangwhatever music won't last as long.
Starting to get that, even though for a billion years I won't ever produce it.
Never listen to opinions regarding gear. For every 50 nobodies on Gearslutz that say a piece of gear doesn't sound good enough to cut it, I know at least one somebody who is cutting it in NYC with that piece of gear.
I certainly don't and I've been tested at an IQ of 151. But I have my your/you're grammar down pretty good.
Actually, shouldn't it be "pretty well"? Good is an adjective, not an adverb.
"My grammar is pretty good"
"I have my grammar down pretty well"
To answer the question: no, I don't think all "geniuses" are good with grammar if they don't have an interest in it.
The fact is that grammar and spelling are no longer considered important in today's technological society.
English is not even my mothertongue, but I respect it and I would never dream to use "your" instead of "you're" but I acknowledge that in today's society, more and more people just don't seem to care anymore.

How ironic. You started a sentence with a conjunction, and used an adjective instead of an adverb.

Agreed.

I agree emphatically. I tested very well, to the point where societies wanted my membership. I think it's ridiculous. It's not a real world assessment of intelligence. There are many people with vastly lower IQs than myself, of which are far 'smarter' than I...

Agreed. Geniuses benefit mankind; nerds lord their grammatical prowess over others...
Indeed. I learned this very fact at 13 when I shedded my scale books like a maniac and realized that it didn't make my playing any better. It just made me faster at playing the scales in the books.
Music in general is about being influenced by it's own culture and philosophy. Kpop have similar mainstream pop sounds as western but the style probably will not go the same way. It can be annoying sometimes. But it's what make music unique each to it's own I suppose. Why would they wanna be the same as western?
You should ask them that.
One of the main K-pop industry bigwigs even said he wanted K-pop to emulate the American music industry. Other than the lyrics, most of it is just a mix of American or Euro Top-40 dance/RNB music with some added syrupy cheese thrown in over the top, and then repackaged. Calling it "unique" is overstating it.
Psy deserves his success, and I'm all for a global music scene, but as for a lot of the rest of K-pop, half the time you can detect the exact western song it resembles or was lifted from.
Was at a bar and a song starts and a Korean friend was like "Korean hit song!" It ended up being the American original, but the Korean version had lifted the main hook. The English lyrics started and he was like "Oh, not Korean..." And that happens all the time where you hear one of those songs and think "Huh? I've heard that exact hook/beat/sample/phrase before somewhere...Oh yeah! It's from... (insert American pop song here)!"
In terms of this genre being "influenced by it's own culture and philosophy" what exactly is that?
IQ means nothing in the real world really. I have a pretty decent IQ, but I've always sucked at school (and life in general) because it's very difficult for me to concentrate on things. I'd much rather be IQ 100 with laser sharp concentration skills.
Also, IQ has nothing to with your taste in music. Most people like the things they heard on the radio in their teens. Most people don't put any time and effort into digging up new and interesting music. They simply don't care and never will. Very few people are music nerds, who spend 3 hours a day deliberately listening to music they haven't heard before, trying to find those gems amongst the turd.

Agreed. I don't think there is an absolute relationship between intelligence and not liking cheesy/fun songs. That's just down to taste or having an open mind and sense of humor.
Someone could like some really crazy Aphex Twin song, and then like some silly Nicki Minaj song as well. Both are potentially entertaining depending on the mindset.
Music has a cerebral side, and a "F-it, let's party and feel it!" side. At the end of the day, people are going to like whatever, despite what anyone else or critics say.

If you think this song sucks, there is a chance you are not the target audience.
When you see how people react to this song in the clubs, you have to believe they did something right. If you have not been to clubs recently, you are probably not the target audience.
I like it, and the video is enterntaining. Girls pick up the dance moves, and everybody is happy
When reaching 400,000,000 views on youtube there is no need to argue.
(By the way, there are very good tutorials on youtube showing how to get the sound you are looking for.)
The song borrows from Benny Benassi's Satisfaction (but so does anything else with a sidechained saw lead), Dutch House in general (but again, that's interchangeable), and the chord stabs in between reminisce of Technotronic's Pump Up The Jam.
There's the Dutch proverb "Beter goed gejat dan slecht geschreven", which translates to "Rather (to have) stolen artfully than written crappily". He did just that, and while for me it's lost the novelty, so have countless of other songs. This too shall pass.

Very good point. The guys at Cheiron Studio saw it as a good sign if their music was butchered by the Swedish Music Journalists. They was worried if they got a decent judgement in the papers. Ace of Base´s albums was butchered all 3 times. They called it crap all the way. "The Sign" It´s still the 23rd best selling debut album in the US (RIAA) with 9x multi platinum (9 000 000 copies).
i dont think there is anynthing better then gangnam style right now. max martin should work with psy, stargate should employ psy, redone and psy would deliver the goods..

Yea but scales are the most effective way of teaching your hands the 'motion' of playing its a muscle memory thing they work better than almost any other playing method I've ever seen
Especially if you do scales at different note durations - then you do scales with different intervals on top of the bass note = very effective training
The thing with scales is the improvements they give you aren't obvious right away but with enough time they make your hands.....ermmmm ready

Haha!!
I think it wins the award for the biggest hit from a song that has the least ability! Sounds like a fekkint demo!!

It doesn't particularly suck, but it is about 8 years out of date and not in the league of euro or USA tracks of the ill. It's on a similar plane to me blobby.

Well, since you posted the elevator clip, add to the list that they copied the "pelvis underwear shake" from a band I love, Die Antwoord... from Zef Side at 1:13, with the famous Dark Side of the Moon shorts
