Just because something is discontinued, that doesn't make it freeware. Someone, somewhere owns the copyright and you won't get it for free.

In a just world, it would be, but some of that technology has been developed by another company (from what I've read, Prosoniq), and they're not out of business.

Don't feel too bad. Absynth can do very similar stuff and doesn't eat up memory that won't be given back every time you switch presets. It also works in other resolutions than 16/44. Yes, it won't do the actual modeling stuff, but for out of this world surround soundscapes it's a pretty good choice.

edit; the only one to feel bad is me, I used to have it and sold it for not much more than what I paid for it

I've heard that somewhere a beta version of Neuron VS exists with the fixed memory leak bug...

Even if you have the software, the Nuke is the dongle.

Yes, that's what I've always understood.

Yes, all things that are no longer in production are worthless. A little known fact is that prices in antique stores are actually suggested donation amounts. Additionally, all patents are immediately invalidated when something is discontinued!

Anyway...in addition to NUKE you probably need to use an old OS to get it working. Absynth is a good suggestion, Izotope Iris would be good too or any of the additive synths that do re-synthesis, none of which I enjoy using myself, but they're worth trying.

If that's not incentive to keep the company running, I don't know what is! But it's a shame that right now nobody is able to put that investment to good use - either to make money with it or to make music with it.

I think that's also a good candidate for Neuron-like soundscapes.

I have VS running in both Windows XP x64 and Windows 7 x64, and it produces healthy Neuron type sounds in FL Studio 10. You don't need old OSX or Windows 98, at least for the software. Maybe the Nuke driver might be a problem, don't know, yet.

Hi guys,
I bought a used unit of a neuron vs a few months ago and I tried it for a while on a very old intel cpu that i had sitting somewhere....
First of all let me tell you that the generating sound is mind blowing !! I own komplete 6 (which includes absynth 5 and others like reaktor and massive) and a lot of soft synths from good brands and there is definitely a difference. The patches are well programmed and interesting as well (not the same when you buy a software plugin and you find that 1 third of the patches are just useless, consisting of things you will never ever use....).
The closest plugin for the neuron (audio and patch quality) for me is probably the powercore virus (waaaaay more expensive) and-or u-he Diva or u-he Zebra, again way more interesting.
I would love to have this thing working in a modern OS like Win7 or Win8 d64 bits but I did no find any way to do it.
I emulated winXP on win7 using a virtual machine but i could not make it work.....
But i have win7 home edition, not professional, so i cannot teell if this would work or not on virtual pc.
If any of you guys have this working on win7 (or win8 64bits!) please share the steps you did to make it work......

Anyways, if you have the money, the time invested in tried to make work this discontinued plugin is not worth it (family guy here...). Just get Diva, Zebra 2 or a Virus and you will quickly forget all this nonsense.
I really hope a company will take the work from the one that went out of business and upgrade the driver to work natively on a modern OS with 4 cores or more. I would gladly pay for it !!

Regards !
