Thread Starter | What would you spend £500-£800 on?
I've just had some cash drop into my lap and figure I'd best get rid of it as soon as possible before it goes on fire or blows up or something.
Anyway, I'm looking for something to add to my existing set-up, possibly a new synth or maybe something a bit different.
My meagre set-up is currently:
Roland SH-01 Gaia
Korg M-50
Prophet 08
Tascam 2488 mkII (24 track)
Lexicon MX-400 effects rack
KRK Rokit 5's
Synth-wise, I was toying with the idea of selling my Gaia and putting the cash towards a 2nd hand Little Phatty stage II or even a Juno 60.
I have a strange feeling that, as good as it might sound, I might tire of the Moog as it's monophonic and perhaps a little restrictive in terms of programming options
Otherwise, maybe some more effects and a mixing desk as I could do with one as I have guitars too.
I did have a Kaoss Pad until it broke and would quite like the Quad Pad but I have a feeling they're maybe much better suited to a live situation rather than studio. Or maybe the Mooger Fooger option?
In case anyone's thinking I should just get a DAW - no. Just no.
One question about the Moog, what's the different about the Stage II compared to the earlier model (other than USB)?
Thoughts?

Hey SynthesizerPatel - last time you were on Look Around You, it seemed like you had all the synths you needed!
Seriously though - a vintage Juno of some kind would be great instead of the Gaia, or maybe a JX-8P would be nice. Don't rule out the Alpha Juno's, either.

Your mic locker is looking a little slim my friend. Maybe a Rode K2 or something along those lines.
And then there's also the go to un-fun answer: room treatment.

KRK Rokit 5's | I think I'd sell the Gaia and the Rokits, replace the latter with something a bit better (e.g. Yamaha HS50M or HS80Ms, or maybe Adam A7s), and then devote the rest to the best dual VCO monosynth you could afford. That, together with the M-50 and P08, would give you a nice, non-overlapping trio of machines, and with your upgraded monitors, you'd be able to enjoy them more!

Thoughts? | Howdy Patel!
Still got the Gaia. Cool man!
I would get a DX7 (FM a must for any synth geek) or an Alpha Juno 1 or 2 and have some cash left over!
Lemme knoiw how you make out!

Lemme knoiw how you make out! | Good day sir!
Had a ponder last night and the one thing I feel like I AM missing is decent drums. The drums on the M-50 are, in my opinion, great if you're a one man band playing cover versions at weddings, not so great if you want really nice, punchy drums (a la, Radiohead, Royksopp, etc....). To sum up - they're shite.
To that end, I'm giving serious thought to an Elektron Machinedrum.
Any opinions?
Thanks.

The Elektron sounds okay from the demo's, but it looks pretty complicated for a drum machine. A lot of button pressing to do something simple.
But looking at your list, you have enough synths and some drums would be useful.

Thanks. | Shite I like typing it as much as saying it. You Brits sure have some funny terms! I steal them in speech often here state bound (one word or two?). I remember telling flat earth I 'struck out on a synth on Craigs List and he thought that meant I got it. Baseball metaphor missed.
We have many parallels my friend. I am missing drums as well. Been composing a lot and only so much one can do with arps and sequences.
As far as high end drums for DAW-less guys like us. Not too much on the cheap. Tempest waaay out of my range. Till then I am stuck with my Alpha Juno's Neil Peart roto tom sounding preset. Shows off the KILLER envelopes.
Though a bud of mine has BFD a great drum plug in- very impressive.
BTW Clive Deamer of Radiohead was using a Tempest on this tour to go with their Prophet 08 which is all over the latest record.

How about getting a sampler? These are very popular for drums.
Something like an Ensoniq Asr would be great as it has a built in sequencer. It also has a DP effects unit built into it, so you can get some fantastic sounds.
I was in a band and we recorded a whole cd just using this keyboard.
It's in your price range too.
