This week I've been relaxing & working on a cover of Kometenmelodie 2 (yes, doing cover songs is my form of relaxation ). Anyway, it occurred to me that some of you have probably done/considered doing a Kraftwerk cover at some point. So, GS, let's hear what you've got.
All of this is just a whim, but I think it would be cool to hear how GS interprets these pioneers.
Kometenmelodie 2 is a fairly obscure KW song, primarily because it had the unfortunate luck to be on side 2 of Autobahn (both the album & the single). And, let's face it, not many people often listened to side 2 of Autobahn. At the same time, it is not a particularly interesting song: a repetitive melody built around a simplistic ascending bass line. And it is not recorded all that well either. So, why should anyone care about this song. Well, let me tell you. To my ears, this is the pivotal KW song, the first song they wrote that you can actually dance to (not that I believe a lot of people have ever danced to it, but you could if the moment was right.) The album sequence itself suggests that KW understood that it was a transitional song: coming out of Kometenmelodie 1, a dark ambient dirge that sounds similar to material from earlier albums, the open chord of Kometenmelodie 2 emerges like the dawn of a new stage in the band's evolution. Here is the beginning of Kraftwerk as a pop band.
For those who prefer visuals...

I disagree, 'Tanzmusik'(dance music) off 'Ralf und Florian' pre-dates that track and is full of melody and has a dance beat..

I love his song because it sounds beautiful. Psychedelic electronica very early on. Kraftwerk were 10 years ahead of everyone else at this point.
At some point I'll revisit it... After all, it's just a hobby for me and I got very little time to spend with my beloved gear and I still have so much to learn
