I live in SLC. Can you be more specific about a genre of electronic music that you are interested in? What dates will you be here?

i don't know anything about salt lake city but in portland there's always something going on. lot's of ambient and techno.

just grab the weekly papers (portland mercury and willamette week) and you'll find venues. check Holocene, groove suite, ground control, someday lounge, crown room.. and then there are some random nights that happen in lounges or restaurants and of course a couple of cheesy clubs.

and for synth shops this just opened

There is some form of electronic night, every night, here in Portland. The two "big" ones are The Hive on Sunday nights and Shadowplay on Thursdays. On the outside, they look like uber goth nights, but the music will catch you off guard from time to time.

As far as I know, they don't play the super popular stuff e.g. skrillets, deadmau5, wutevs.

I wonder of Owen is still at Hive? Great guy with great taste.

I wrote a large paragraph about all the stuff going on but I had a connection problem so I'll mention I heard musclehawk might be playing on the evening of the 25th at club elevate then mention what I personally like.

My fav is downstairs at Area 51 on thursday for retro. Saturday night for goth/industrial/alt and friday for newer industrial but I usually like the old stuff. Evening of august 25th is their monthly fetish ball which is very popular, large turnout without being uncomfortably packed. Back to school theme this month. People getting strung by ropes, sucked in vac beds, poked with needles, etc. The music is decent but it's a good example of the pulse of slc.

Yeah, DJ Owen is still there. He does the inside sets. Weird guy, but super friendly. He swore to me I would like the Hive, but the one time I showed up it was an oontz oontz dance nightmare.

No idea. Techno nights happen if you enjoy the company of people who aren't old enough to drink.

Lol, far from it. Huge and dedicated ADULT house & techno scene here in PDX. Lots of love for classic deep house / garage.

I've never heard of those events - but then again they do sound more in the dark/goth/rivet camp. It's a scene I was involved with a bit in SF back in the early 2000's, so I look forward to checking them out. It's cool to discover other scenes here in town.

I'm currently taking a break from events and promotion, but the clubs to check out for QUALITY house and techno are Groove Suite and Someday Lounge. Also, if you're in SE, BC's Bar on Powell has a few great deep / tech house monthlies. Element Bar downtown also has great Friday / Sat deep house / tech house / dub techno events.

I run the Closer PDX Electronic Music Festival (closerpdx.com) - this last June, we had close to 2000 people at 14 events in 8 venues. 100% quality house, techno, broken beat, quality dubstep and squee from Lodubs, and even an ambient showcase from Optic Echo and Nueva Forma. No glowsticks, no candyravers, just passionate people and great music from mostly local DJs and artists, with some selected guests.

Algarythms brings a lot of the SF Dirtybird crew up, and they have a Thursday night monthly at Groove Suite well worth checking out. They also are doing some Sunday daytime parties out at Agenda on SE 82nd.

So yeah, there's a pretty vibrant scene here in PDX - and Fooddude, lots of quality deep house, tech house, detroit techno, etc - and no, its not all kiddie parties.

Cheers!

Awesome..good to know!

I used to live in SF, LA and NYC too (trying to move back to nyc asap, by this summer). As for the "underage electro/house/techno scene", just about any city will have venues/parties catering/attended to mostly underage..and vice versa (adult).. it's really just up to us to find the good, more adult, parties

Anyways... can't wait for my first visit to pdx someday :D

Anymore suggestions for PDX venues/parties/nights with quality deep/underground/true-school/nj/ny/det-house/garage welcome

I'm not saying they don't exist, but perhaps I am just sleazin around the wrong parts. Spend a lot of time downtown and aside from things at either the Fez or Crystal, loads of underage hooligans. The industrial area down by OMSI has some things down and around there, all nighters too.
