Oatmeal LFO question

Hi guys. Basically I've been trying to work out how to get the LFO of the Oatmeal synth to sync with REAPER. In the end I just set the BPM of REAPER to something close to how fast I had set the LFO rate, but it'd be nice for this to work automatically.

The main problem though is just that the LFO seems to keep running even when no signal is being sent, so each time I start the midi track the phase seems to be at different points. Is there any way to stop this happening with Oatmeal?

I'd appreciate any ideas - I'm pretty new to the whole electronic music thing :P

According to Oatmeal - Free VSTi Synth - Togeo Studios in the "MIDI Control" or "Main Screen" pictures, the LFO shows a mode called "Global-Free". "Free" in this case means "free-running" - e.g. it keeps on doing its thing regardless of what note you play.

The alternative would most likely be called "key trigger" or "gate" - this means it restarts its cycle every time you press a key. If you can change this option (and there's no reason to present it if free running was the only option), try doing so. If you're using the default skin all it may be labeled in a slightly different way.

It also shows a very small black circular button below the "RATE UNIT" in that same screenshot with the text "Quantize". My (hopefully) educated guess is that this changes the LFO timing from milliseconds to notes - and then you should be able to select quarter notes, 8ths, 16ths, whatever you want.

Oatmeal doesn't have a great user interface - well, definitely not with the default skin. Consider KVR: Synth1 by Ichiro Toda - Details as well - better labels on the buttons, bigger knobs.

Oatmeal is amazing. But do NOT use it with default skin. Use Limeflavour's skin, which is amazing and really does justice to Oatmeal:

Download Lumina skin here

Yes, you should.

I must say that Oatmeal has the best patch randomizer EVER!

Thanks guys that was amazing :D ... I had no idea that a feature like the LFO mode could be hidden or revealed by a skin. Thanks again

Just out of interest, I'm trying to get the LFO to create a tremolo, and to do that normally I'd route it to the amp, but on Oatmeal there doesn't seem to be an option for that - the closest I can get is routing it to the LPF set really low so it cuts out almost everything. Is there something I'm missing here?

Yeah, you can't do that, but you can do sorta stereo tremolo by LFOing the pan...

Is there a maple and brown sugar version?
Tasty!

Re: the actual question of this thread - you right click on the "rate unit" control and you get this:

So, quite a lot options to "rate" the LFOs
