Wait, then again yeah this biotch is PHAT.
It's actually so large it's hard to fit it into tracks as is.
But for pure PHATNESS, Sequential is great.
I sold my Juno 106 because it was clean as hell but sounded too plastic, the SC stuff is more organic to my ears. Six track would be a good choice though not uber punchy.

I wish I knew what all the minibrute love was about.....I wasn't impressed, I mean it's innovative. But for the average new synth user (you know the presets guy) this is lacking a big piece of the pie. Mopho over the minibrute.......But for me mopho it's tied with phatty. Phatty wins on sound alone, mopho, well 4 lfo's, 2 subs, I mean this thing does it all, mopho for flexibility.

If you think the Future Retro XS sounds harsh you either dont know how to program synths or you're just repeating crap you've read

They are very cheap for the quality sound IMO.
To the OP get a MiniBrute and a GAIA. Both of those are feature and knob heavy and will teach you a lot about synth programing. Instant fun too.

Listen to the demos though, and if you dig them you'll like it. Arturia - Musical Instruments | Media |

Listen to the demos though, and if you dig them you'll like it. Arturia - Musical Instruments | Media | I spent a good solid hour with the Minibrute last night. Really the first good chunk of time with it since I got it. Life's so busy... but I digress. When I first got it I was out of inputs, so I have it running though my MoPho with everything wide open. What I forgot was I had been experimenting with overloading the MoPho (which actually is really quite good if you're going for that kind of thing). So I was getting distressed that I was seemingly unable to get a good sweet clear sound out of the Minibrute. D'oh! See what happens?
Anyway, I'll retract my previous comment about it being all about "distressed leads." It's actually capable of some very "fat" sounds, though it still lacks the weight and buttery smoothness of my ATC's Moog style filter. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If it was similar I'd have no use for it.
Still... I don't think I'd recommend the Minibrute to a 14 year old budding producer just because the lack of preset memory will be a hinderance in a live situation. Even in the studio it's a bit of a pain in the butt, at least the way I work. I like to have a bunch of projects going and skip around between them as the spirit moves me and having to get out a preset sheet is just another speed bump in the process. If Arturia were to release a version that had preset memory and velocity sensitivity I'd be first in line to upgrade.

Frankly, I'd be just has happy if all my synths were black boxes with usb plugs and good software editors.
If you're up for that, I can't recommend the ATC-x QFS enough. I got mine used for $800 on eBay. It's not an especially feature rich synth, but it sounds great and the 4 filters are all winners. The UI is great IMO, though it only has a single knob. After 10 minutes you'll never care. It's got a rich analog sound that makes it the one hardware I'd keep if I could only have one. When people talk about how Diva mimics analog perfectly all I have to do is turn to the ATC for proof that software's not quite there yet.
I like the Phatty too... you could probably find one used for $1000. Less if you don't need the keyboard. Harder and more wooden sounding than the ATC.
The Minibrute may also be your cup of tea. It's not as "hi-fi" sounding as the ATC, but it's got a lot of interesting "quirky" features that make it stand out. Great at aggressive stuff and the only synth I've mentioned that has a multimode filter. | I've thought on and off about an ATC for a long time now. Any quirks that make it feel a little annoying? Steppy filter sweep for example?
Anything odd like that?

Used Sequential Circuits MultiTrak, though, I hardly think you'll find one in working condition. Think the Prophet 600, 1 less OSC per voice, but the STACK feature is WOW!!!
I wouldn't sell mine for any amount. Of all my synths, it's the Phattest for chords, bass in my opinion the Phat award goes to the Juno 106 which you can get for sub $1000. After that Phatty, but those seem to hold value well.

Anything odd like that? | nope.
No stepping.
totally not when using the local knob .
Not audible at low rez parameters when controllin via midi.
Huge improvement on the SE1.
Buy one.
Only BAD BAD BAD aspect of the ATCxi : sub-average manual and support, minimal midi implementation and limited routing.
but sound and analogue specifics are very good.

It's a beast, stacked as you seconded.
