Yes there is, it's called a dsi mopho module

Original microkorg is still great bang for your buck thou, people hate cause it was mass produced, and has small keys, but it does sound good.

Akai MiniAK? Are you looking for a beefy type of sub-bass, or a punchy type of bass?

Probably not if you want keys - they are really good for the money and nicely tweakable, bass especially. I'd check out the mopho module if you can too if you don't need the keyboard.

If you want something that does it all for your price, get a Miniak ( but remember no USB)

if you want something portable and dont care about smaller keys get a MicroKorg)

both choices are a bit of everything, but if you have things to already do leads and pads and just need bass. >>

if you want a fat bass analog bass sound get a monotribe, then save up for something else with your change.

If it is for professional music recording, wait and get a Minibrute, but remember it will be monophonic and no presets.

if you are not actually sure what you want, spend £25 on apps, rinse them out and then go and play around in a music shop. This will tell you all you need to know about what feels good and what just doesn't appeal.

-IF- you can find and buy a minibrute, get one. the problem with the dsi mopho is that you need a midi keyboard controller which is extra $$.. i spent 9 months researching what hardware synth would be good for my first. it was either the microkorg or minibrute... but the minibrute was months away (and still probably a while longer before release) go with the microkorg original, it has great sound, great price, and it makes learning synthesis easy and fun... not to mention you can use it as a midi controller with your pc!

For the money, considering you can get a used MK for under $300, I'd say that yes, they are amazing, maybe even the best. You really can do a lot with those little things.

you can also buy a korg monotribe, the midi mod/hack and hook it up to a midi keyboard and get AMAZING analog sounds. its what im doin to my monotribe.. but you do have to have the balls to open up the mtribe and drill 2 holes on it.

The Microkorg does great bass. Whether it's digital or analog is not important.

Yeah, I'd second the Minibrute or if keyboardless is ok perhaps the Waldorf Pulse. There is some huge analog bass in there.
