Best Free MIDI library?

I am new here. I am also new to using MIDI.

I am looking for a better sound for the MIDI and I understand I need a MIDI library to do that.

What is the best FREE MIDI library I can download?

Thank you for your help!

What would you like?
What platform are you using?
What DAW?

There are THOUSANDS of free virtual instruments. And maybe a hundred or two extremely capable ones to buy.

What do you want?

You do not need a MIDI library, you need a virtual instrument with all the samples that are in the General MIDI soundset.

While it's not a 1:1 GM soundset and it's not the best, E-MU Systems - Proteus VX might help you out.

I am hoping to use the MIDI for backup music for recording. I saw on YouTube that someone used MIDI to make realistic sounding music. I know I can't get that quality without paying a bunch of money but I want to see how good of quality I can get.

I will try your suggestions. Thank you!
