How many softsynths?

I'm just curious how many softsynth you currently have in you're plugins folder? Not effects, just synths, and it doesn't matter if they are free or commercial. I personnaly have 11 and sometimes find it's too much. I'm just trying to guage where I stand.

10 or 12.

I probably only use 3 or 4 regularly, though, with the rest only seeing occasional duty. Mostly its about the subtractive instruments and FM8. The Romplers make the occasional appearance.

Now a days, I'm really selective in determining if i need anything new. So far, Absynth seems to be the only synth out there that I know of that I don't own and would bring something new to the table. Maybe Reaktor too.

31 a combination of free and commercial stuff and that is counting Reason as 1 big synth the IK bundle stuff as 1 plug since I run it all in SampleTank My Kontakt libraries as 1 plug and the Korg Legacy collection as 1 plug in.

Way to many. Mostly free stuff, but tal audio, the stock logic synths, komplete bundle (mainly massive and kontakt), omnisphere, and albino are all I really use.

525. Most freeware or low-cost shareware.

However I recently moved everything into a folder called "VSTPlugins.old" and now I'm slowly moving back those that I actually use. So when a song throws an error message about a missing plug-in, or I actually want a particular plug-in in a song, I'll move that back. Currently I have 16 plug-ins in that folder.

Tremor, Omnisphere, Absynth, Albino , DCAM, Iris, Largo, Minimonsta, Reaktor and XILS 3, so 10.

For me, this is more than enough, the sonic area I can cover with these is enormous. When I get my Virus Polar I'll more than likely be removing more, though Reaktor and Omnisphere will always stay I guess.

I believe I have 13 plus the free ones that came with Digital Performer.

I mostly only use Omnisphere and MOTU's Ethno Instrument.

Is anyone else having issues with the tal uno-62 in logic 9.1.7 in lion? There seems to be a lag when drawing midi notes with an instance of this synth....weird. It's doing it with Tal elec7ro as well.

Gosh, I don't know - maybe a dozen, dozen and a half all told. The ones that see the most use I guess are Zebra, Diva, NI Massive, DCAM, PPG 3.V and Omnisphere.

Most anticipated future releases: Zebra 3 and hopefully (a) new synth(s) from Andy Simper sometime following "The Drop."

DCAM, Massive, Firebird+, Reason and some zeta 2 lately(wasn't too found of zeta 1 but got some cool sounds out of zeta 2)
If I'm in a techno mood I like ABLPro and Rebirth.

Spent too much money to Software Synths and they are too many to list here, but some highlights:

- Kontakt (including plenty of 3rd part Libraries)
- Nexus 2
- Omnisphere
- Stylus RMX (including plenty of expansions)
- U-he Diva
- EXS24
- SEM V
- Reaktor
- Absynth

If we're talking strictly synthesizers:

Pro One for Kontakt
Absynth
FM8
Massive
Omnisphere
Sylenth

99.9% of the time I use . . .

Sylenth for Bass/Leads
Omnisphere for Pads
Absynth for random stuff like bells/pads/etc

Then I use samples for drums and stuff like that. I also use samples for strings sometimes but . . . dont use acoustic strings much these days.

So my list isn't very large in the first place but . . .

You really need to find 2-3 synths you REALLY like and just stick with them. There is absolutely no reason I need anymore than the 3 I listed that I use all the time. Sylenth totally cuts through a mix, omni pans out nicely in stereo pads, absynth is like my all rounder and weird effects synth. And thats it . . . thats all I ever use. And people are constantly asking what I use in my music because they like the synth sounds.

It may not be popular here, but I've actually invested in some patch libraries and they really helped a lot for some good sounds to start with, then hone in on what you like.

And just to stir the pot, I think Sylenth sounds so good, that it almost sounds as good as a good Roland Analog synth.

Massive and FM8 are really popular w/ the dubstep crowd
