Reason's 'New Lane' style midi channel on Logic Pro?

Hi guys,

My first post here and its one that has been bugging me for a while.

I'm used to the Reason work flow where I can record my kick drum midi, then press new lane an have a new midi lane for my snare without having to load another Redrum etc.

However in Logic when I try to make seperate midi lanes it just makes a whole new instrument, so if I then wanted to change the pitch of a kick etc i'd have to make sure I was editing the correct channel etc.

Add to that the stress on the CPU for several Battery AU's running etc...there just has to be a better way around this?

Thanks in advance.

Here is an example of what I mean.
One device, two separate midi lanes for it.

How would you do this on Logic?

I've been looking on google and youtube and have come across 'Seperating Midi' which is kinda what I mean, however this is to split what you have already done by pitch etc.

YouTube Video on Midi Separating on Logic

But what I want is to CREATE an 'Alias' which is empty to ADD new midi onto, rather than only splitting what is already there. So I can overdub my midi on a new clear lane.

Anyone know all about this Alias/Channel info?

Well, being logic there are a ton of ways to do this. Take folders:
Logic Express 9 User Manual

New track with same channel strip: option + command + return or select it from the track menu.

There are even more ways to do this as well, but I feel these are the easiest.

Yeah thanks, i've just figured out I can create an external midi track (which stops Logic loading up a default instrument) then just right click on that and navigate though the REASSIGN TRACK option to set that Lane to control whatever I want.

I.e = Right Click/Reassign Track/Mixer/Software Inst/ then pick what you want that lane to control.

This method works, just is not the fastest way surely?

Will try your way out now.

Also, Folders are cool, but then when arranging your song you can easily forget whats actually there hidden in a folder etc, I like to have it all laid out infront of me.

AJ you legend, thank you. I just changed the Key Command for that to + on my keyboard, exactly what I wanted. Thanks.
