i imagine these new guys should sound similar to an extent, with two important differences: discrete VCA and hardware envelopes. all four filters here were really nice themselves. compared to originals i had next by, id say they were somewhat softer, polite with tad less character bite. maybe they revisited/updated the filter circuits, and not just repackaged them.
I would guess that with the discrete VCA and envelopes, the additional gain stages would go a long way in adding that something extra to the sound. We know that gain stages make the difference in older gear.
This is great! People are moving towards better sound but for a while it has been at the cost of standard synth features. Now we're getting the sound with the features in small packages!
I agree with the level controls for sub / osc 1 & 2, also with some overdriving of the filter built into the level control's range.
Nice LFO implementation, please make it go well into audio rates, makes such a difference. Maybe provide an LFO output too. The best would be EG 1, 2, LFO, and if possible VCO individual outputs, individual osc CV inputs, but I understad there need to be compromises sometimes. This can make having multiple units much more flexible through modular connectivity.

to an extent yes - i had SE1X Nova which has the same oscillators, and two out of these four filters, and indeed discrete VCA has a impact on the sound difference btwn the two. its a tad warmer, more organic sound.
but otoh, thing i noticed and posted about comparing the the four atcx filters and their originals, seems to go with the filter circuit itself, as i noticed the same thing comparing SE1XNova to minimoog/sem. plus minus.
i dunno if they hand matched transistors in atcx and se1x... as theyre advertising for the new product .. maybe we can expect a change here. be it as it may, their clone filters are among the better ones ive heard.

Integration with a modular system. Oscillator and filter frequency modulation, perhaps, step sequencing with analog sequencers so you're not restricted to MIDI notes alone.

This is cool. Looks like this could be the way to go to get an open, sizzly top end (assuming the traditional SE sonic character continues), full-range oscillators, and also good filters and snappy envelopes at a really good price point.
I wonder if the analog envelopes will eventually find their way into or become options for the rackmount synths with patch memory.
i just pre ordered the 4075 from Nova. I was told they don't have a solid ship date yet, maybe a few months. Thats ok with me, between the Tempest in Feb and a Minitaur & Clusterflux this month I'm taped for a few months. I think I's time to sell some things!
Osc mixer is rather lacking though. Only Osc 2 volume is provided. I can see a situation where I'd have a PWM lead on Osc 1 and a triangle lead on Osc 2, and I'd want to use one or the other during a live performance. It can't be done, it's either Osc1 alone, or Osc1+2 together. There is plenty of space at the top for the inclusion of two volume knobs (the tiny ones).
Just flip that switch...
I'm kidding. The way SE was so quick to listen to customer input is absolutely awesome.
I was just at the Studio Electronics Facebook page and they are saying that the Boomstar should start to ship sometime between 5-1-and 5-15 2012 we will see. I really want to hear a demo.
Looks pretty sweet. I have to say though I would use as a desktop and I think the inputs/patch where they are at the bottom would annoy and get in the way of the knobs above it. Would rather see them at the top.
Looks like the rebirth of analog is in full swing... im hoping for a new synton syrinx or at least some more rarely seen functionality like dual filters or more esoteric circuits.

Could someone please explain what difference all the filter types provide? I'm familiar with the 303 filter and the voyagers filter, is there a difference in the res provided on those machines?

Someone posted a demo of all available filters on the omega in a thread a couple weeks ago, maybe someone remembers and can dig it up. I wouldn't mind having another listen myself.
Needless to say, the difference is much more than just the "res."
EDIT: Realized that person is me-

recorded 44.1 24 bit, I can dropbox you the original if you like
the same preset was used for all filters, so volumes vary according to filter
i did not touch anything
1 Osc sawtooth, mono, pretty high resonance VCF envelope
with sweeping decay.
Filters are:
1) TB-303
2) Arp 2600
3) OB LP
4) Moog LP
5) CS-80
6) OB Band Pass
7) OB High Pass
8) OB Band Reject
At first i didn't know what you mean, but then I looked closer and noticed that oscillator 1 wave selection switches have a centre position which appear to be the 'off' state. If so, this could be a solution, i suppose. But we like independent volume pots, don't we? :-)
Anyone noticed the LOOP switch for each envelope? Does this loop the whole envelope or the decay stage? Questions, questions. :-)

3) OB LP
I like the sound of that a lot! Very characterful with a nice 'throaty' quality. Add some overdrive + more res and get stronger formants. I can imagine the SEM edition would be great for making that Royksopp 'wooden' bass sound, so often asked for.
I am so glad i did not commit to any desktop synth, this, micromac, new mfb, new pulse...
Yay so many choices, now this.
If this thing is priced right, it will smoke the new moog stuff and the mini brute.
I don't get it. In all other threads when good suggestions are made you cry, "I need presets!" No presets on these puppies. I love my ATC-1, sluggish (I never notice) filters and all. It's got banks and banks of presets... Man I'm jonse'n for the ATX-1x though. That f'kr sounds hot.
