Welp, I pre-ordered the SEM version from Noisebug. I'm not anticipating any issues, and if there are any, I trust SE to make them right. Hoping I have it in a month! I will keep you slutz posted.
May the Synth gods smile on us all ...

If it sounds ANYTHING like the previous SE demos posted, I can't imagine how one or more of these won't be sitting in my studio ... Perfect timing for me ... !!!

Me too and a MiniBrute. That will be a great winters tweaking.

now, well...
... right, but...
it would make a bit harder to:
... include it into your forum signature
... sell it on ebay (the day you want to upgrade to the new and improved, poly-filter version, the "H@m@rr@yd Ext")
... sell patch libraries for the synt, advertising them under the banner "I spent nights and nights with my hands on my AF to give you an exciting aural experience"
Why yell "vapor ware" for a synth that hasn't even missed it's ship date? Yeah, if this was December... maybe. Minibrute was supposed to ship in February and didn't come around until July. It's not like Studio Electronics doesn't have a history of putting out similar instruments. Why doubt them? If a Boomstar is an ATC-1 with analog envelopes and knobs, I'm sure it will be excellent.
Already owning a couple SE synths I really doubt Boomstar will be a disappointment. Plan to get one in a few months. In the meantime I'll be listening to demos. I have a suspicion the demos will only increase my gas.
NEWSFLASH: The 1st BOOMSTAR motherboard hit the El Segundo test/tweak and tune bench today! It's beginning to look a lot like August (late though), EVERY SINGLE DAY! Most projects of quality expand/explode their timetables; clearly that has happened here, but the biggest gears are turning and in all likelihood, we are no more than one month away. BOOMSTAR sounds will be posted in the next few weeks. S.E. synths are back... I'll make sure Greg's oldest "iphoner" snaps some pics today for juicy posting!
Nobody's saying it'll be a dissappointement. I just don't full understand this strategy.
Take dsi for example (perhaps, Tempest wouldn't be a good example). Each time they're out with a new product, the "launch" is full. They announce a new product, and on the same time release pictures of it, sound demos of it, video demos etc.
Same goes for the launch of the minibrute. We heard nothing of it - and then it was announced, all at once with a product page, complete with sound demos and videos.
It's true it always takes time between announcement until it actually hits the stores, but at least you have an idea what's it like.
In the boomstar's case (as in the case of the waldorf pulse 2) they announced it, giving some cgi mockups, and that's it.
I mean, even ken macbeth with his micromac, continiously released demos and videos while still in the developement stage.
I say - if you don't have anything ready to show, than don't announce. Announce when you have something substantial.

Reading this, I do get where you're coming from. Its a bit premature to start the chat wheels rolling about a bare schematic on a page, without anyone ever even hearing the prototype yet.
Then SE do make killer stuff, so I cant help but be pumped at the thought of those guys doing it right and at an attainable price.

I would say Elysia's product announcements are the best and should be the standard all others are held to.
They don't make an announcement until the units are en route to the retailers so by the time of the complete announcement, demo videos, audio demos, pictures, etc. are released, units are available within a day.
THAT'S how you make a product announcement.

Frank

Never listen to opinions regarding gear. For every 50 nobodies on Gearslutz that say a piece of gear doesn't sound good enough to cut it, I know at least one somebody who is cutting it in NYC with that piece of gear.
I would much rather see excellence in synth manufacturing than synth marketing ...
I don't see how it's in contradiction. Does the fact that, for example, ken macbeth has constantly released new videos of the micromac while still in the developement stage - has come on the expense of the micromac's excellence and quality as a synth?
If anything, ken's "case" is an example of a continious dialogue with the future buyers, that eventually resulted in a better design than the initial one.
who said it wasn't an contradiction lol? but everybody's different, every company is different and I am willing to forgive that because I am so interested in the product ... maybe it's arrogance on their part, I kinda hope it's that good ... whatever ...
There was a lot of activity in the analog realm when SE announced Boomstar. Perhaps they wanted everyone to know that they were still actively engaged in new product development; they saw other manufacturers putting out affordable analog units and wanted to draw some attention to their new offering. They may have felt somewhat forced to make an early announcement.
Glad they did actually as I might have purchased a competitor's analog. Now I'll wait and compare. My guess is that I'll still end up with SE.
As someone stated, "it's only a synth"; it coming out "late" isn't going to change anyone's life.
