Using the Doepfer Dark Energy as a CV/MIDI converter?

I am new to the world of CV and modular synths. I purchased the Dark Energy and ill have it next week.

Can I use the Dark Energy to somehow control and sequence old vintage synths (such as a sh101) with only CV interfaces with it? Kind of like one of those Kenton Converters? I plan on sequencing outboard synths through Pro Tools.

it depends on what you got.
if you have a midi rig with your protools, you could use that to send midi to the Dark Energy, and in turn use it's outputs to control other synths.
but you'd lose some control over the Dark Energy itself, there's only so much bandwidth.
You could add a Kenton then, no problem. There's USB ones too.

Have a look at "Expert Sleepers" modules (ES-3, ES-4), and their "silent way" plugin. Perhaps that works as plugin for protools as well.
Or MOTU Volta, and one of their interfaces.
Both use common audio outputs, which are near sample accurate. no more midi delay and sync hell! This doesn't work with midi gear though...
Or... if you plan on using outboard sequencers, check the "Innerclock Systems" or SND ACME4 products which do clocking without latency.
That does work with midi gear (but only clock).

I have an ES-3 coming and just ordered the ES-5 expansion. Yet I use midi sequencers (MPC, Logic, E-mu) as well and midi-CV. Since I don't want to be dependent on a DAW anymore to write music.

there's been a couple of threads about this, do a search, and read up yourself. (don't be lazy or you'll invoce the wrath of the godess of the eternal patchcable )

Well basically I want to control a vintage synth such as an sh101 with pro tools (sequencing quantizing etc) via the dark energy. I'm using a midisport 4x4 to convert midi to USB Thanks. Would this be doable?

cascading of several units via internal Midi Out/Midi In connection, because of shortage of space the unit has no Midi Out socket available this connection has to be established internally, for this the metal case has a hole on both sides so that the Midi Out/In connection can be made via this hole provided that both units are mounted to one another, the Midi Out has Midi Thru function with one exception: the signal does not include the Midi note messages that have been processed already, consequently polyphonic cascading (all daisy-chained Dark Energies on the same Midi channel) or monophonic cascading (different Midi channels) is possible, it's possible to connect only the first unit to USB and pass on the Midi data via the internal Midi link to other devices)
Yes.

hows your experience with controlling the sh-101 with the dark energy?
did you stick with that or did you get a kenton?

Just bought a dark energy and have a sh-101

I used my Dark Energy to control my Eurorack stuff before I got a dedicated MIDI to CV module - worked just fine...

Asked to Doepfer if you could use the Dark Time as a CV as well but they told me that it wasn't possible technically. They did suggest that with a bit of remodelling of the electronics it may be possible. So there may be a MkII with that option if tons of people will be asking for it. (*hint*)

ehhhm but I should be able to use dark energy as both midi to cv and cv to midi for my sh-101, right?!
Or can the dark energy not send its cv inputs to midi out?

edit: it does not have midi out

I think it's just a thru.
if it was, I'd be very surprised.
I'm using this: 552
but it's big and I'm not putting it in my bag.
Doepfer used to have a DIY version, and they're planning this module:
