Cubase Drum Synth???

Hi. I am thinking of buying Cubase 6. Does anyone know if it comes with a good drum SYNTH? Ultrabeat is really good I hear. I just watched some videos by Rick Snoman and he really swears by Ultrabeat and creating kicks using a drum synthesizer. Also, is there really a difference between a drum synthesizer and a regular synth for making drums? Are the drums created in a drum synth any better and if so why? Sorry, I'm a newbie, but I'm really trying to get in depth with production.

if you're indeed a newbie then a dedicated drum synth is better as creating good drum sounds from scratch on a synth, especially a VSTi, is complex to say the least. image line drumaxx is pretty cool, and works fine in cubase. ive got no idea what, if any, drum synths come with cubase 6, i'm still on v4.5 over here!

no I don't believe it has a drum synth..only a beat designer which is basically a midi pattern sequencer.. makes creating percussive beats easier. You can also drag and drop the pattern into the midi lane just like you can with Ultra beat.

Cubase 6.5 does not have a dedicated Synth-Based Rhythm/Drum Machine, I would love to see them offer this in version 7 !

Meanwhile, I wish Spectrasonics will offer, and integrate something of this nature in their next major version release of Stylus RMX.

Cheers,

Cubase include GrooveAgent One - Not a synth but a fine Drum sample player with about 50-60 drum sets

If you're looking for a great drum synth to add to Cubase, try FXpansion Tremor.

I heard mixed feedback regarding Tremor, but I'm very interested if it sounds great ! Some comments were regarding the built-in effects being just ok, which could be negatively affecting the sonic quality of Tremor's drums.

Anyone using Tremor ? how would you rate it ? excellent sounding ? or just good ?

Thanks,

Listen to this: Small | Lights Fade Low. All drums from Tremor.

The effects are equivalent to those in Geist, which is my other favorite drum VST.

You can route each drum to its own out and apply you own VST effects on the channel, which I do.

You can use FL Studio as a VSTi with Cubase or you can rewire it into Cubase. In my opinion, FL Studio is the defacto drum sequencer. Been using it since version 1 and it's grown into a full blown DAW.

Also, before jumping into Cubase, you might want to check out some other DAW's like Reaper, Mackie Traktion or Ableton Live to see which one suits your workflow best. The cost to get into Ableton or Reaper is a lot less steep than Cubase. I used Cubase for years but recently switched to Traktion because it came with my mixer. After trying it, I switched fully from Cubase.

I have used it quite a lot. The effects are fine, they are the ones in the DCAM software and the BFD 2 software, the point of them being there is so you can control the effects with the envelopes and shape the transients even more.

I think a lot of people were expecting a lot of generic 909/808 type modules sounds/controls. It's pretty deep, a lot harder to get your head round that say a 909 emulator but the results are amazing when you get it. You can get those classic drummachine sounds but you need to take a different approach to get there.

This is a good demo of just the basics of what it can do..

If you're only going to watch a small part of it, watch from 5:30 onwards where he starts adding the velocity modulations.

Thanks for the feedback, and youtube link.

So far, I like what I see, and hear, I'm most likely getting Tremor

Who knows, but maybe Steinberg will offer a very cool sounding Synth-Based Rhythm plug-in, or integrate it into their current GA1 or maybe offer a new GA2 in Cubase 7 !

Arturia's 'Spark' Rhythm machine is another great tool.

It offers sampled, Physical Modeling, and Analog Synthesis options for creating your drum sounds

The controller is pretty cool looking, and Arturia is releasing quite a bit of new sound libraries for it. It's always a joy to use a controller for drums, and this one is nicely integrated with the software.

Check the features of Spark here :

Arturia - Musical Instruments | Details''

imho. 'Spark' & 'Tremor' make a very nice pair, that offer a huge potential for producing synth-based drum sounds, and much more !
