I was in a pawn shop today, saw a black suitcase and unzipped it, inside was an MPC 3000 limited edition with wood panels. I paid 325 for it but It has no disk. Is there internal memory that I should be able to get sound out of to make sure that it works? Thanks, Kevin |

That's a lot better than opening it up and it being a giant black dildo! Or... Wait.... |

Plug something into the input in the back and sample it, then assign it to a pad, hit the pad, see if it makes a sound, if you want to save the sound, insert a disk, save the sound, then you can load it later.

It'll work just fine without a boot disk. It has internal EPROMs with the OS.

Thank you, it is the blue kind with wood panels and it looks barley used. I will post pics latter. I have been trying to record a sample into it though and I can not get audio to pass through the unit into my audio interface, any ideas. Are the outputs muted somehow? |

Never mind, I got it. My Goldbaby samples are about to become a hell of a good time. Quote:

I wonder if it was the same case in Pulp Fiction.

damn thats a major come up. props on that. i love my mpc60, but i think id only cheat on it with a 3000 LE. get those pics up. also, look into the mansell upgrade. heard that turns the 3000 into an even more powerful machine. edit* im pretty sure those come with SCSI installed. get a card reader and never deal with a storage problem again. |

I do have a question. I have a kick sample already assigned to a pad and I have recorded a small loop. However there appears to be panning linked to the velocity somehow. This is all on one pad mind you but depending on how hard I play the pad the kick pans left right or is in the middle. How do I access these options?

That would generally be in the mixer, but that really sounds strange. By default pad velocity is linked to volume.

Hmmm, when I turned the unit off and then powered in back up it dumped my sample that I had recorded and when I re re-recorded the sample it panned hard left no matter what the velocity. |

you may want to check the PGM settings. when you power it up, it has default settings. what is the OS version? you may be able to just reset to default factory settings. also you have to save the drum assignments and samples as a PGM or APS file to something. |

Thank you sir! I am now going to have to pick up a midi to CV controller to drive the CS-15 your demo has convinced me to purchase, any suggestions? I will say that this MPC really does have a nice sound to it, I have always heard this and it is true. There is a punchy mid range thing going on, sounds leagues better than coming straight out of Logic and the timing sounds more organic to my ears. |

You'll have to do some rewiring in the unit first if you want to use both oscs with one CV. Or buy two Y cables to split the CV and GATE to both channels. CV converter: anything by Kenton Gearslut-recommended CV converter: Waldorf Pulse + |

I'd suggest going here Akai MPC Forums - MPC3000, MPC60 There is a wealth of information about the MPC3000 and you can get the manual from the "MPC os and manuals" link at the top of the page. |

I no longer miss my Jomox 999. I think this is more my style, crisp sound, easy to program and a clearly laid out control panel. I have sampled my Goldbaby Vinyl 909 to my MPC and applied the MPC's dynamic filter to the snare and I am absolutely thrilled by the sound. This box is extremely intuitive to program. I think I have a new hobby, suitcase hunting in pawnshops. The sales rep did not realize it was even there and when he saw me pull it out of the suitcase he tried desperately to convince me that it was a piece of crap that I would not want to buy. He even went as far as to half way push the plug in to try to convince me that it would not power up and when that did not work he said that if I did not hear the click track through the MPC's built in speakers that it was broken and useless. Unfortunately for him, I knew better. He looked physically ill when I bought it.
