Genre creating technology thread

What technology, softsynths, plugins etc have contributed the most over the past decade and which ones will in the future to the development of new musical genres

Examples:

NI massive - dubstep synths
Autotune - pop r&b vocal effects a la wil i am

The DAW. Though that was the past two decades, but hasn't really matured until now.

Going from Pro Tools to Studio One seemed like jumping 2 decades further.

I think these things have contributed in a bad way due to over usage:
Side chaining
Stutter/glitch plugins

Oldies from way before the last decade:

Step sequencer - Berlin school.
Moog portable synthesizer - synth pop.

The last decade:

Omnisphere - Soundtracks
VA synths - Trance

The future:

Modern analogue and new hardware FM synths - revival of classic electronic music (not EDM).

Furher future:

Demise of DAW and change of methods in order to achieve more unique results within the classic electronic genre.
