what is your signal path for recording synths, sound modules and drum machines

I would like to know what hardware fellow slutz use on the front end of their DAW when recording synths and sound modules. such as DI's preamps comps eq's and analog filters.

I make mostly psytrance music and downtempo psychill music.

Anyone have any experince with the Anamod ats-1 on synths?

Whats a good pultec clone for nice low end with broad strokes for the front end?

I currently have:

REDDI DI's

Vintech x73i's

UBK fatso

Distressors

2 Fliterbank2's

H8000FW

This palate is good but lets face it we are slutz.. what is your ultimate front end?

Entrainer had and used that ATS-1 AFAIK.
I'm lusting for a Retro Instruments 2A3.

Nice man... you don't need any more! Spend it on synths or someshit... Although I have a Dynax 2.. it is INCREDIBLE for drums. Still... you have some sick gear...

Ever considered a culture vulture? I have one, cant recommend it more.

I do actually have a CV, I think what I have is great and plenty to work with, I dont have a hardware EQ and want to get something good for low end punch. the anamod would just be another slutty purchase but I would like to see what is adds to digital mixes or synths. thanks for the input.

What about one of the neve portico designs? Small footprint, relatively small price for what you get... Or what about investing in a 500 series rack enclosure, starting with one nice 500 series eq and building from there..

Hi all!! I'm a psytrance and drum and bass producer and this is my analog chain for synths:

Virus TI 2

Radial JDI

API 512c preamp

EL Distressor

Sherman Filterbank

Mytek 96 ADC

I really suffer the lack of an Eq in the chain (i've still 4 empty slots in the 500 rack) but i'm now considering buying an EL DerrEsser for the LP/HP capabilities...

the chain is very rich sounding but it often ends up with loads of frequencies hard to treat later.. any advice?

Kendrick 6-Shooter!!

Found one of these about 12-13 years ago. 6-Channel tube pre. Been my secret weapon for all things synth, both software and hardward synths.

Guess the secret is out now, eh? HA!

Yeah, it's awesome for synths. I don't know the specs of your
pres, but I clean nickel for certain bass patches. Get the ATR
card if you check out the ATS-1.

I flipped mine during my modular expansion... loved it though.

At some point I hope to demo their 670, I'd recommend doing
that in your case as well vs. the ATS-1... see which one you
like. I can't recommend one over the other myself.

Looks nice aesthetically. I really want to try a HW midrange equivalent.
Lots of room between 100hz and 3-5k. The 60hz though on the Solid
State Pultec... what?

Synth line out -> RME Multiface line in. Job done. :-)

but I'm not as much of a pro-audio $lut, probably would be if I had the bones though

thanks for the info on the ATS-1. Im gonna try to get my hands on one

looked into some eq's too but it seems that one wont do everything so it will be a combo of 2.. wallet cringing

gyraf 14
massive passive
sontec 250
mini massive
gml8200
api 5500
eqp1a3

what about a mono compressor with character for synth bass? I see a lot of fellow producers using LA-2A's 1176's and even Slate Dragons. anyone have experience with these or other models suited for big synth bass patches? i love the sound of the UBK and the distressors but wondering if the LA2a or similar is worth it..

from that list I'd probably go with a Massive Passive for synths
since you can get pretty wild with it.

But Crane Song IBIS responds to CV.

big synth bass patches?

nothing. Digital EQ, Linear Phase w/ a good synth filter.
Nickel Pre-Amp if anything.

Maybe check out the 500 series... get a Anamod 670,
some EQs, pres, etc.

Really good. I love it. Probably my #1 for synth bass.
The Nickel trannie really cleans up sub-bass but stays TIGHT.
