depends what you actually want to do with the vocal. i really like granite for messing up vocals and it's great quality, but this is a compositional tool rather than an effect, so it's not as simple as (1) send audio to fx (2) mangled (3) done, you have to put in some time... i mess about with vocals in granite, then render the result and then make more edits and add processes to that rendered result. google granite. the demo is free, it's super simple to use and it sounds awesome. |

Hi, sorry if I post into your thread but I am also interested into such a plugin, but I don't need a super high quality plugin, rather something simple to use but with big effect. It should be freeware or have a free demo version, that I can try it out. I would use it for techno/trance/electro voices, e.g. transpose voice down 2 octaves or do some vocoder style voices. I'm no talented singer, that's why I need that to make my vocals sound interesting and fit into my music |

For the task of 'mangling audio' my personal favourite plugins are the GRM Tools V3 suite. They are extremely versatile and of very high quality. A must have for anyone interested in serious sound design. As golden beers said, Granite is a great tool for mangling audio, especially since it's free to try the demo version... My other personal favourites as far a VST FX go are the Soundtoys Native Bundle Soundtoys' Crystallizer is great for adding pitch effects and such to vocals. All of the plugins in the Native Bundle are great in my opinion. Also check out Camel Audio Alchemy, again good for creatively manipulating audio. |

If you have Reason I have three combinator patches I made that use Neptune + Thors step sequencer + a Matrix and Alligator all wired together to process each bit of the vocal differently, they all use the Alligator to do the frequency splits so you can add a whole nother layer of control to the step sequencer. Each one has different fx later on in the chain but they all have the same basic setup with those above. You need version 6 but other than that nothing else, just tell me and I'll pm them to you! |

Try out Melodyne. I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but no one seems to have mentioned it. You can do some pretty cool things with formant manipulation, you just have to stretch it beyond conventional use. It's also the go-to vocal tuner for a lot of professionals. There's a slight learning curve before you start getting solid results but once you get some practice under your belt it is an incredibly powerful tool. They have a free trial I believe. Can't go wrong there |

| Making Arnold sound like a middle-aged woman was a pretty extreme effect +1 Alchemy since not only can it resynthesize and alter partials but you can do trance gate stuff with it in the same environment as well. |

Are u a Ableton user? You can achieve what u want being creative with the effects rack. Ableton is the best to manipulate audio.

Flux Ircam Trax is pretty high quality. It's like a surgeon's scalpel. Melodyne cool too, though I've not had the pleasure of working with it. For fukkshitup I'm a fan of the Audio Damage and also Airwindows plugs. |
