i need to generate some sub bass

i'm looking to generate some serious sub bass frequencies. i am familiar with the whole corpus approach in ableton, but i was hoping for some alternatives. i've made satisfactory sub bass support loops using an mc-202, but i am still not 100% satisfied with my results. if anyone has any techniques or hardware/software they like please let me know. i've listed two different examples of what i am after below. the speedy j example has a very wet muddy sub bass level that floats through the whole song, while the skudge remix has only a faint layer tucked beneath the kickers. i am interested in anything/everything i can get...

Nice tracks.

Have you read through these threads?-

Those clubby subs

Advanced sub-bass techniques thread (yes yes ANOTHER)- optimising loudness/harmonics

How can get more bass in the track, without having to do heavy eq'ing in mastering?

Bro, this is WAY easier than you think. Like most people who have problems with Sub bass, you're probably over-thinking it.

Ultimate Sub Bass = Sine Wave + Light Saturation. Play in a low octave. Done!

Some guys prefer lowpassing Square or saw waves. Personally, for really big, round subs, I prefer a sine. I've chased the ultimate sub bass for years. Trust me, it's this simple. Just make sure it's loud enough in your mix. If you still can't hear it, you either have room issues or tiny speakers that can't reproduce the sub.

Enjoy!

this!

after that, how it comes out depends much more on the other instrumentation and the arrangement not getting in the way of the sub, than on the actual sub itself.

on the skudge track, the kick and sub trigger one after the other, so you get the sub of the kick thru and then it dies away as the sub gets triggered. if you listen to the other elements, there's hardly anything with low frequencies getting in the way of the sub or the kick.

Personally prefer triangle to sine waves for sub bass, cause you get just a bit of extra harmonics to work with so you don't need to crank up the resonance and dial in an exact cutoff level to give it some thickness. If you're gonna use a sine, I'd use at least two oscillators and make sure they're detuned from each other a bit.

I get excellent results with just one sine. Sometimes, FAT is the result of not cluttering and layering too much. Agree with you on Triangle, had good results that way too.

OP, I finally just got a chance to check your example tracks--

personally, I find NEITHER of them to be all that Subby. Not by Dubstep & Hip Hop Standards, anyways.

BUT-- I think in these cases, they both sound pretty heavily limited with some room verb on the kicks/subs. Sounds to me like the mastering is really bringing out the background of these kicks to make them seem more massive than they originally were.

Filtering a SQ produces a sine.....

Your quest should have started with reading a book on synthesis.

Wouldn't that would depend on where you set the cut-off?
