Thread Starter | Little Phatty 2 Quiet Output?
Anybody else with a Little Phatty find it quiet in comparison to the other synths they own? My Phatty volume has to be completely turned up and I am still only hitting around -20db when recording. In comparison if my Juno 106 is at about half volume I am nearly clipping. Is it just my unit or?????

It has a low output compared to other synths, yes. I just run it through a cheap Mackie mixer on a preamp channel to boost the level. If you don't own a mixer, your computer audio interface probably has at least 2 preamps, maybe? |

Thanks for letting me know. I was just worried that maybe I had a faulty unit. I was running it direct to my soundcard since I had one open input and it is only a mono signal. I guess I will have to run it though my mixer so I can get some additional gain. I am sure this will introduce a bit more noise in the signal though by turning the mixers gain up. It's weird because the headphone output on the Phatty is VERY loud. Do you find this as well? |

Yep, the headphone output is pretty loud. I'm usually good with the knob up less than half way. The good news is the LP's noise floor is sufficiently quiet so I've never had any problems with background noise when using a preamp on it. Nothing like the Juno that you mentioned, that's for sure. I used to have Juno 60 and while that chorus effect sounded amazing, it had a very high noise floor - constant swirling background hiss. |

Well that is a relief. Thanks for letting me know.... I find it pretty weird that the headphone out is really loud yet the output is so quiet. I will run it through the mixer and get some extra gain going. The Juno noise floor is pretty bad, definitely have to run a gate on it for sure. |

+1 for headphone output. That is much louder and a lot more useable especially for when you're making sub patches
