You're right though, my Miditribe cost $250 and doesn't look as good value now that Ive preordered a Minibrute for $425 but it's still great fun.

^yeah, no one knew all these new analog synths would be coming out so cheap. The Monotribe could def get some use still though

I've found the monotribe to be fairly versatile even without any proper keys or external control. It has a step option for its keyboard plus a fairly handy octave dial, so playing melodies on it is not impossible. If you're doing simple bass lines then actually it's quite easy. Because the Minibrute is so darn appealing I don't think I'm even going to bother with the midi kit for the monotribe :-) Still I reach for the monotribe because of its amazing sound, not for any other reason. Ok, more blatant plastering my own stuff here, but a good deal of the bass (esp in the later half) of this clip was Monotribe all the way.

Virus B synth mod on the other hand in more comparison, (Notch up from the Virus A) has 24 note per 1 polyphony, 82 effects, aggressive analogue - Bass lines, heavy distorted noises and sweeping pad creations. 128 waveforms for both oscillators - plenty. 2 LFOs which you can achieve heaps with, also an envelope generator for controlling Voltage Filtering ., etc... You can make thick sounds with this beast .. Tip : There are more sturdy sounding synths than this 1 above. NAVIGATE FURTHER.

Great little bugger the Monotribe. You could also check out the Monotron varieties in addition, they can be had for less than $50 new. If you want a keyboard for cheap, Alpha Juno's are $200US +/- and sound nice, however if you a knob snob like me you will need a controller like the BCR2000. Also some great software editor like this one: Its FREE: Alpha Base - Ultimate patch editor / librarian for the Roland Alpha Juno family

Yet, combining the 3rd Oscillator, man ., the possibilities are there. Further more... I wouldn't jump the Virus pit straight away, you need to find the right source for your desired music passion, synth output to your music style liking.

I am really moving towards the Virus, i can get a virus b for $900, i'm thinking it would be a good idea to get a virus as my first synth as i have heard they are complete workhorses and i will be able to get a lot of great sounds out of it. Thankyou for your replies! |

| Then again it's ebay. ![]() ![]() Where are you located- I see them cheaper on CraigsList, but it helps to be in or near a city. I am in the NYC area and stuck out on one for $750. ![]() There is one on ebay now staring at $600, you may be right though as there is a lot of time left on it. |

Gear baby, GEAR! Nothing replaces hardware NOTHING! Congratulations on seeing the light. There is just another dimension to using hardware. That VST's and software cannot emulate and never will. Why do you think Arturia just released and analog monosynth? Have you considered the Roland Gaia? This was my first synth and inspired me to get the rest in my rig. Not sure your level of knowledge but it has the best UI in its price range period and sounds very good. I always tell this to fellow slutz: avoid spending all your cash on one thing! The Virus A may not be the best for you if you want t keyboard. It is quite limited esp in the effects dept. What kind of sounds you want to make? This is key in choosing a synth. ie if you want polyphony- the Moogs and MoPhos are not a good option. |
