The Valhalla DSP Plugins

I'm on the edge of buying Valhalla Shimmer, since I've heard many good things about their plugins. I haven't heard too many demos of them though, youtube produces almost nothing. The website has sound samples, but I'd like to hear more. Has anybody recorded anything using a Valhalla DSP plugin? I'm also considering the Uber Mod they just released, it sounds really cool. However, I was wondering the the territory of the Uber Mod overlaps the Shimmer in some aspects? The uber mod is also capable of reverb, right? I'm just trying to get the plugin that will give me the most bang for my buck. I make mostly psychedelic/ambient type stuff. Any of you guys have opinions you'd care to share, or better yet, recordings with a Valhalla plugin used?

Shimmer sounds amazing.. .but I bought Room instead.

The good sounds that Shimmer makes are very similar to what do on my Roland D-550.
Bit redundant for me.. otherwise I'd buy it.

Yeah I've already been to their soundcloud. Was hoping to hear their plugin in a more conventional song setting, you know, in the mix with other stuff going on, not just a single instrument or drones. I'll probably just buy it, it's cheap, and from what I've heard does sound pretty awesome.

In case you weren't aware, you can actually d/l the demo of the plugin for ValhallaShimmer from their website. It's identical to the full-version except it cuts out like every 30 seconds or so.

UberMod is the one to go for, it offers so much. Then get Room too. Can't praise them enough. Loads of samples here http://www.gearslutz.com/board/new-p...x-windows.html

Can the Ubermod do shimmer reverb? I really want that kind of effect. It says "reverse reverb". What the heck is that? Can someone describe it to me? Sounds trippy.

It doesn't technically do reverb, but it does delay, which is what reverb is made up of... sound wise it does the shimmer yes. But its not a dedicated reverb so no pre-delay for example. Get both.

Here's a bit of a track I'm working on, UberMod on the chords and pad sound, you can hear the shimmer at the end.

Masterfully designed software, thoughtful user interfaces, beautiful sounding plugins, a seriously attentive developer, and - if that's not enough - the plugs are only $50 each! And you can download a free demo and use it in your own studio before purchasing.

What are you waiting for?

I own Room and Shimmer, and they both sound really fantastic. I find myself using Room more though because it's more generic, but Shimmer is really really fun to play around with and can render some interesting results. I can't say anything about the other ones because I don't have them, but I'm sure they're great too.

But yeah, for the price you really can't go wrong. They are very high quality plugins. I use Room almost exclusively for reverb because I don't have much else, and it just sounds so much better than anything else I have.

Shimmer is the ambient reverb, the would be underlined if I knew how. Its the least flexile of the 3, but wow is it useful. Any synth sounds like god with Shimmer on it.

The unique point of Shimmer is pitch shifter in the feedback path. It's not a general-purpose reverb, it's best at creating weird and lush textures out of anything. UberMod is a multi-tap delay that reaches into chorus/flanger/reverb territory. Room is a dedicated reverb unit, the most 'normal' out of the 3, but versatile and great sounding.

But really, why rely on Youtube when you can download the demos of all three and play with them yourself?

I just bought Room, Shimmer and Uber after trying the demos. Amazing stuff! I've been on the hunt for a cheap hardware reverb recently but have stopped looking after hearing Room, it sounds superb. Sean sent through the links and licenses really quickly too, great service.

Me too
I've eschewed more hardware FX for now in favour of these three plugs. Very happy with my choice.

You may want to check out Audio Damage's EOS (done by the same developer). For massive halls I prefer it over the Valhalla plugins.., for me it also beats Relab LX480 and Softube's TSAR-1 for very large, dreamy, spaces.
