JP-8080 worth it?

Is the JP-8080 still worth it? Or should I consider getting something else? Current seller is selling for 300. It would be paired up with a Radias, Mopho, Korg M50 and a Blofeld.

IMHO: Nope. Get something else.

(unless of course you like the sound of the 8080)

All I have heard is from youtube videos and most time that doesn't do any gear justice. I've been burned by a couple of roland gear, I once traded a keyboard for the original V-Synth and I just did not like the sound of it. I'm assuming the 8080 is along the same lines in sound but not functionality.

I'm going to say go for it.. I personally love the sound of the jp8000/jp8080 and for $300 its a steal. The strings sound great and it has this overall dark sound to it that I haven't heard quite the same way from other VA's.

Great price.

If you don't like the sound of this demo which is pretty typical presets http://www.gearslutz.com/board/5303789-post14.html Then you'll hate the 8080 basic sound.

Personally I like it for wide synth strings (super saw is not only for trance rubbish) and sequences. I find its raw oscillators and ends sound and act rather like a Jupiter 6 ofc NOT the filter. The 80x0 filter has this tweedy stiff digital eq sound to it.

It's got a weird midi set up.

For 300, you have nothing to lose. I definitely think it's worth it.

300 what? Dollars? Pounds?

I owned one for many years but ended up selling it. I guess it's main selling point is / was its digital sound. It sounds a bit like there's a slight bit crusher and sample rate reducer on it which gives it some digital grit.

I agree that it's main selling point or "strength" is its digital sound. On the flip side, it's main "weakness" was also its digital sound, particularly with the filter and the aliasing issues. However, it's capable of some great sounds and has such an immediate and inviting interface.

Great synth for strings. My all time fav for strings. Sucks at bass, good at arp leads. I like it way more than the nord lead, and a little less than the virus a.

I'd get it if you have a rack to put it in. The biggest reason is knobs & original supersaw/pad sound. If you aren't into that sound (I am) , then you won't want it. Also consider the 201

$300 is near half the price anyone else is selling it for....so even if you dont like it you can resell it for a profit...that would settle it for me

Ill give ya $305!! no jokes, thats a $5 profit straight off!!!

For $300, I'd be all over it. A synth is still a synth is still a synth.

Used to have one, but sold it to fund a better, more powerful and capable VA (IMHO), I'd be all over grabbing one again if I found a great deal on one. (like what you have found)

Check the demo that lain2097 linked to, the JP-8080 excels at strings, and massive trance supersaws. Oh, and some nifty RPS style functionality that noone ever uses. Downsides are some zippering, digital alisaing and so on, it's core strength (digital) is also it's core weakness (digital) as well.

It kicks the crap out of the TI, i sold my 8080 thinking the ti and snow would get me the lush supersaw strings the 8080 gave me. Bzzzzzz, wrong.
