Thread Starter | What are your fave Ensoniq DP4 DP2 effects?
I've had it just as long as I first started. And, I was actually pretty sure on selling it and its' been on CL for sale for the past 3-4 months, mainly because I really hate menu digging and complexity (I'd rather have simple fx units, like old 80s rolands sde, srv, deps, with manual knobs and instant buttons, etc.) But, I think I fell in love with it again and think I am going to keep it. It really does sound that good ....my only other FX are a filter factory, 3630 (just to duck bass slightly), sde1000 (of course, my sde destroys the dp2/4 on delays) and midiverb2 (good reverb, but a super dirty, totally diff kind of verb than the dp)I was mainly using it for reverbs (which has very nice verbs that the mv2 can't do; mv2 is kinda too dirty for hats and highs and not detailed enough and just turns it into a long hi-freq hiss/noise) and also sometimes use the amp/compression/speaker fx (to gritty things up)... but I have only recenty started using its' Chorus fx on pads, stabs and vox. WOW. Chorus made me want to keep it and not sell it anymore. It makes my analog synths and 12-bit vox/stab samples sound so much more juicy! It kinda reminds me of switching On the Chorus button on my Juno 60 and makes sounds turn into a totally diff round and lush beast. So basically, yeah, I will keep it. Mainly because of discovering the wonderful Chorus, and also rediscovering/re-falling-in-love with the reverbs. Soo..just curious... to the other DP2/DP4 owners... which are your favorite FX in this magical box??? Of course I have been through all the fx, hundreds of times ...but just wanna make sure I am not missing anything special that works magically with certain kinds of sounds. |

Sounddiver gets a lot of shouts for use with synths, but the only piece of equipment that I absolutely must program from Sounddiver, is the DP4+. If you don't have a copy of that, seek one out, even if only for the ensoniq. I like most all the algorithms in the box, but what really sets the DP4 apart from most other efx boxes is the signal routing you can do with it. Setup a 2x2 parallel patch with a nonlinear reverb followed by a plate or room on each channel. Assign CCs to some of the parameters, perhaps the nonlinear attacks. Experiment with some feedback between modules. Pan the outputs left and right. Say hello to bizarreverb. Rotory effect is high quality. |

The chorus really is lovely, as are the other modulation effects. The phaser is magical. If you've ever listened to any French house, put it on the Key Funk Phaze preset. It's a beautiful sound that was on basically every French house record ever made. The flangers are equally lovely, especially when combined with reverb or delay. The DP/4 is my only hardware effects unit so I've put it through the motions. I could never do without it.

4-unit presets "Studio vocals" 1 and 2. Magic for vocals. Vocoders and other stuff. So many things this unit can do! Delays are excellent. |

Are there Pan effects in my DP2/DP4??? If so, what's it called and what are good settings? Looking for those nice, fx that pan gradually, left to right and over and over, kinda slowly over time and over an entire song, like you hear in lots of deep house and stuff.... |

I a new DP Pro owner. Somewaht different boxes I know but I've found that, although the Chorus is very nice, the multi-pitch shifter is just marvelous.

Huge DP fan here too, also love the phaser and pitch manipulation. Even in the presence of an H8000 and Bricasti (m7) it still gets a ton of use! |
