Cubase 5 Midi Sync'd Record Question

Hi guys,

I'm having a problem setting up cubase, I've got it synced as a slave to my MPC2000xl and I want it to record when I press start on the MPC.

As soon as press record the system starts, but I want it to only start the record when I press start on the master unit (MPC) this way I'll get an exact recording.. Rather than having to press start on the mpc then press record on cubase..

How do I do I change the way cubase starts recording?!

Thanks,

Luke

OK, Now this is strange..

I'm now using Cubase as the master and the MPC as the slave with MIDI Timecode..

I press play/start in Cubase and the MPC plays but the time doesn't count in Cubase and the line across the screen doesnt scroll, Impossible also to record.

So I'm stumped.. How do I record acurately with Cubase and MPC2000 in a synced enviroment?!

Please.. Any help would be really appreciated!

Luke

I'm not a pro with cubase and external hardware. Also not in my studio at the moment...

So... you sure the track is set to read/write. If I remember correctly you need those selected for it to actually record. Even still Cubase should actually play, when you hit play

Is your MPC equipped with SMPTE? check the back. If so that is a MUCH more reliable way to sync your MPC. Slave the MPC to cubase using smpte then send midi out the mic for rock solid performance.

Basically, I want to record when I press start on the MPC so the recording is perfectly synced and captured in time with cubase..

I have the two synced but currently the only way I can get it to record is to press record then press start on the mpc which captures a recording which is not synced to the grid.

There must be a way to 'arm' the record button so its ready to record when I start the system from the master (the mpc).

Please help anyone, I'm stuck on this project and this is driving me bannananananas!

You should probably be doing that anyway to let the two sync up. Give yourself a few empty bars on each device at the start of the track to let the sync "lock" in. Expecting cubase to slave right off 1:1:1 perfectly off of MTC is dubious at best, works much better if you let it run for a few seconds. You can always trim it after you record.

did you bother to read my reply? cubase sends smpte and you slave the mpc to it I swear sometimes I wonder why I even bother
