Is there no love here for ARP? Odyessy, 2600 or 2500?

It seems like there is only Moog love for old U.S. analogs. I used a 2600 a few times many years ago and it was a snarling beast. Cut through everything on the mix and we got on tape in one cut. Love it.

John Foxx's main synth on Metamatic was an Odyessy. I would love to get an Odyessy MK3 but a 2600 would be too expensive.

Do any of you own ARPs? No love?

Never played the 25/2600 models, but I've a couple of goes with the Oddy and I LOOOOVE it, not into vintage synths though (for reasons that have ZERO to do with sound). I'm sure the users will surface soon, ARPs are pretty much valued in this forum.

you kiddin me? my odyssey is one of my very favorite monosynths

unfortunately, it's sitting in my repair pile at the moment. Arp's are old and didn't have the highest quality construction...and some of the parts were sealed in epoxy, making repair even more difficult. I think all that together puts arp into the "potentially problematic" category and it seems many are sold with some issue or the other these days. Of course, the discrete circuitry and well published schematics means most of these things can be easily fixed.

things like moogs and rolands tend to be a lot more reliable and didn't have issues like the terrible terrible sliders on the arp odyssey.

as for 2500s. those things are fairly rare and expensive. there's not many people who just have them laying around to talk about, many went to colleges and universities and some are still there.

I'd love to have an Arp Oddysey, but financial reality gets in the way.

I'm just hoping for a 64-bit version of GForce's Oddity at this point.

I think the sliders aren't to bad, the only reason they go bad in my opinion is that there is nothing to protect dust or dirt from getting in them.
I have washed the boards on all my Odyssey's, flushed and re-lubed all my sliders and now they work like new. You would be amazed on how much better an Odyssey works after giving it a wash.

Why is your Odyssey not working Xero?

Love the ARPs

Hate the slidepots that wear out and can't buy new ones (I know the 2500 has rotary pots but they are rare)

Hate the potted modules

Arp Odyessy love!

Tons o' love!

I have a Odyessy MKI, pre-everything (CV/gate) and I'm just now getting it midi'd up, in the shop, but soon to be making all sorts of appearances on my tracks!

And I DID have an Arp 2600 (Tonus edition/grey meanie) Awesome beast, but I jus couldn't justify it.

With Moog, Oberheim, Sequential (sort of in Dave Smith and John Bowen) all back surely the ARP is ripe to be resurrected? I'd love to see a new ARP Odyssey.

Who owns the name? I think Al is heading towards 87 so might not be that keen on starting up again.

Fave Billy Currie ARP solo (from 1:57) - love the way he plays the sliders as much as the keys:

Yeh, I just washed my Arp over Xmas, relubed sliders, feel So much better! Replaced the key bushings as well... synth is good to go for another 30 years.

What do you think about the difference between the Pro One and an Odyssey? I have always felt the Pro One would eat it alive!

Who owns the name?

Remember Don Martin's fiasco with Moog Music Cincinnatti? He snatched the Moog and ARP trademarks in the 1990s when they expired and promised reissues of minimoogs, modulars, taurus. He couldn't replicate the minimoog yet continued to take deposits from customers. His house of cards collapsed in bankruptcy court and the Moog trademarks were awarded to Bob Moog. So where were the ARP trademarks awarded to?

Funny.. I always thought there was an unspoken agreement that ARP is beyond discussion or criticism.

That's my opinion anyway.. even the Arp Axxe is amazing.

I always had a problem with their aesthetics though (excluding the 2600 and the ARP sequencer), and some one mentioned build quality, but since I've never actually owned one I won't comment on that point.

Much love for the Arp Odysseys here. I've got an MKII and an MKIII since a couple of years. I love the sound and the design/layout and fortunately haven't had any problems with them in years. The more I use them the better the faders work.

This is my 2600 (my avatar comes from this photo):

And my Mk. I Odyssey:

Much love for ARPs here. They sound amazing. They have a really distinctive character.

The 2600 has the 4012 filter (4-pole Moog-infringement design), and the Oddy has the original 2-pole filter.

I love them too, especially the 2600 and patched out whiteface Ody.

OMG! Your 2600 is gorgeous! Were the lighted sliders factory or did you add that? Incredible.

Also everyone should remember that the first and probably second Depeche Mode albums were on an ex-touring Elton John ARP 2600 and ARP analog sequencer. Vince Clarke said Daniel Miller spent endless hours doing the sequences. I think it drove Vince a bit batty.

Both synths were modded at CMS. The 2600 has a few extra switches, knobs, and LEDs that were added for additional functionality. The lighted sliders on the Oddy are part of the Lumina mod that I had Phil do along with some other stuff.

I had few arps in past ..... few AXXEs, 3 ODYs PRO SOLIST, SOLUS , and friends 2600 that was offered to me ............

2600 black orange ... just not for me!! .. I know its a great synth .. but im on the dark side

AXXE ... one with wood sites and moog filter sounded WOW KILLER!!! I loved it but due mechanical problems and huge noise .. I sold it

AXXE ... black orange one... nice sound .. still close sounding to 2600 and limited and ... again not for me

ODY... MkI black gold GREAT SYNTH!!! lets say PERFECT!!! last few years most underrated synth ( around 1000$ in USA if you searched hard)
... sold it cause i had 2 ODYs at same time ... MKI and MKIII and bout were black gold scheme!!!

ODY MKIII black gold ... KEEPER .. but modified with MkI and MKII filters, ADSR mod, CV mod and next step is modularization of ODY and new panel ... CUSTOM SYNTH !!!

I want mine like this with patching
