Plenty of love from my side. I own an ARP 2600 with the tonus logo and Moog lawsuit filter. Amazing machine! |

Phil Dodds demoing the ARP 2500 to Steven Speilberg during the filming of CE3K, shortly before Phil got an offer to act in the movie.

i also dig ARPs both the earlier ladder variants, and later, of 4072/4075 variety. grew up listening to Tony Banks play greyface2600 and pro soloist. there was always something special, something magical about ARP. back then i was definitely more fascinated by it than with moog, tho i loved tomita/carlos/TD as well... still weep for 901 vcos to this day. however, i didnt get to catch 2600 in time when they were still relatively cheap.. i remember running into greyface tonus logo on CL, some 5 yrs ago, for $2k... alas, it was at a time just after i blew most of my savings on rev2, obxa, jp8 and cs80... i was mad about polysynths then. so i could only watch it go away .. in frustration and horror. and i just KNEW prices are gonna go crazy soon after.. so never again ... i mean today, the prices of 5,6 or 8k are just over the top for what 2600 would bring to my table. and my desire aint following this, even if someone walked to me and gave me 8 grand i wouldnt buy it. there are other things i need in my studio much more. nicer pres/comps/converters/monitors/sml consoles/groupies etc. so, i'm gonna go with oakley and am synth clone designs too. |

| Agreed, but if you look out, you can find a good ody for 1800 US on ebay (though some would say that is probably still a very high price...but we only live once)

Often overlooked but you can really do great stuff with the routing. | |

I love the Odyssey and the Arp sound in general, I think it is a little less techno sounding than Roland synths, the Arps have a lighter quality or something, but still sound great. Very melodic sounding. The routing on the Odyssey is genius, so much flexibility with great simplicity over all. it is this kind of thing that makes me so disappointed with the modern analog synths, often so limited and an extra pot or switch could have added so much. I refuse to buy any synths that don't have filter FM, or are stupidly limited like most of the stuff coming from moog (except voyager). Makes me curious why they didn't have osc sync on the 2600, maybe to have a feature you would need a 2500 to get? |

Some of my favourite Numan Odyssey moments: at 2:00 and following choruses throughout and solo at 4:20 at 3:00 and amazing Billy Currie sound on: at 4:38 |
