Interesting read: the maths of sound

Interesting post about the maths of music/sound. Not entirely new but neatly summarised. Good read, hope you enjoy it too.

When you realize that sound is just compression waves in air it is pretty amazing that we can distinguish such subtle differences in timbre (like the sound of a Minimoog filter compared to a Pro-One filter). Our ears are most sensitive to changes in the frequency range of human speech, so I think that translates to music as well - instruments (including synths) that have unique characteristics in the vocal range are often more "pleasing" to most people.

You probably did not read it? It is not about the compositional side of music, but about the way we physically hear sound.
