Music video is one of the best ever IMO.

Prolly doesn't stand out so much anymore, but it was way ahead of its time.

Fast Show- one of the very best programs ever.

and the bloody Prodigy- the hardest and best first 3 albums for an electronic band ever. literally defined rave music and sample based badness and went on to competely destroy all in their path with the heaviness of Jilted and Fat of the Land. truly epic. pioneers.

and still to this date the LOUDEST and most mental live show i have ever been a part of. (almost as loud as Aphex Twin (Come to Daddy era) and funnily enough Erasure, during the Chorus tour...)

May be a slight derail but do how do you think they compare to others around at the time?

^ Love this one still. Good ol' Dave Angel..that was 1990 people will still go mental if you play that today, be it at Fabric or an Illegal Party. Not because they know the remix, just because it's very good. I think a lot of breaks producers would still be very proud of making that today 22 years on..I bloody would :P

(best bits around 2:20)

all about Experience here

it just seemed they were making actual songs then rather than loopy rave tunes.

i still listen to it all the time

oh, and it was a silver vauxhall (opel) astra for me

I'm not quite old enough to be driving cars around in '92 :P But about '96 my best mate had a two tone (blue/green) mk1 Nova, it was beast, not like the smaller later models, the guy he bought it off was obviously a raver though, insane sub in the boot, felt like you were being punched through the back of the chest..

In my experience (being active in the dance scene from late 80's for a decade) people didn't have a template. They experimented and cool stuff happened that way. Also, some were actually much more talented that people think (these days every DJ is an "artist")
So it was music and party lovers, having fun with whatever gear they could get their hands on and not worrying about anything too much apart from making more money than a shitty job allowed and making some great tracks...
These days people WANT to sound like XX or YY..and they can't do anything unless they have XXX synth or ZZZ compressor...
Small studio, sampler, a couple of cheap synths, lack of prospects and boredom can create some pretty cool music.

It all went tits up pretty quickly if you ask me...

Cheesy pop.
Ha you say pop like it's a bad thing, pop - Definition of pop

I first heard Firestarter when I was 8. It's the reason I love music, NOBODY liked it when I was that age..... Now It's my least favorite on the album.

My personal list is:

1 Diesel Power
2 Smack my bitch up
3 Narayan
4 Minefields

Liam is the god of big beat. Dam if could take Big Beat to Pop I'd be happy.

Been to see Fatboy slim 3 or 4 times now I think? Actually worked at 2 of his concerts. I mean he's good, done some great stuff, I do like him but not on the same level as Liam.

Best bit in that tune is the subby bit with the soul vocal, to me anyway, that bit is timeless, guessing it's a Juno with some 303 on top, rest of the tune isn't, but are you playing at Art Gallerys or Clubs? Swings and Roundabouts.

Either that, or (more likely) they use the same cracked plugins in a cracked DAW and watch youtube videos how to sidechain a kickdrum - to sound like everyone else.

Well, actually I know several talented artists for whom this is absolutely not the case, but it's hard to get into the mainstream these days with the music industry infrastructure where it is...

Even 18 year old 1st year students love all that sl2/acen/altern 8 stuff, even though they weren't even born when it came out.

You're actually probably really right cause the three other people I know making music at home are basically using all hacked stuff and then make fun of me because I won't and so I only have a little tiny bit of stuff. :(

I think it's funny though that they also make fun of me because "ditzy looking blonde girls shouldn't be allowed to produce music, only dance to it" and yet with all their super cool hacks they don't really make anything song wise at all but with my little bit of junk I show them new songs every week!!

So hah! Jokes on you boys!

And for the record I only -look- ditzy.

I think.....

As for The Prodigy I looooved SMBU but when I bought the album I didn't like much of the rest of it. Never heard much else besides that album though!

Awesome track back in the day. Shame you had to remind me it was 22 years ago SUAD's Lamborghini was a close one between the two also.

I think their last album (invaders) was quite bad. The previous one had at least two or three good tracks.

But then again I will always love The narcotic suite, in this day and age it would be imposible to realease that kind of music/track on album in a major label.

That's a sh*tload of gear. I hope they'll "get back to basics" with their music...

I have that exact same Mackie mixer that the site says they mix most of their songs with, and I've been repeatedly told there's just no f...ing way I could ever make anything that sounded good with that "piece of crap". Yet Liam says, "As far as I'm concerned, Mackie are the best desks for dance production.".

Yeah it can't be modded but it's still got a good S/N ratio and is very transparent if you don't push it, and if you do push it the right way you can get some pleasant (or unpleasant!) analog distortion out of it.

What really intrigues me: why FIVE Roland W-30s?
