Thread Starter | Dubstep elephant synth
I hear this synth in a lot of Skrillex and other dubstep tracks. It reminds me of an elephant blowing its nose. anyone know how to program a synth to make this sound? I really like it. @ 1:07 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o-Kvvpbg-A |

LOL! I always thought I was the only one who thought it sounded like an elephant!! Actually it inspired me to sample Jurassic Park and play with dinosaur roars!! This part is really stupid but you guys might think its funny: Before I used Jurassic park I googled "dinosaur audio recordings" and searched for like 10 mins before I realized..... They sort of don't exist. |

I can't remember exactly what the combination was but it was something crazy like a Lion's roar, an elephant scream, whale pitches, and dog growls.... then they EQ'd and smashed em all together and Pow! - T-REX!

I found an article on exactly that during my hunt! That's some pretty cool sound design if you ask me! Plus I looooooooove dinosaurs, extremely cute. There's even a dinosaur biting my rump in my avatar pic. Ok fine, it's an alligator, and it's not real, but it's kind of like a dinosaur.

| Holy crap that's freaking Dinoriders!!!! My brother had a TON of those and the rents wouldn't buy me any :( The T-Rex one was like the coolest toy I had ever seen back then lol. I wanted the Diplodocus though. If I get a new dog or cat it's being named Diplodocus!!! |

I knew I'd seen it before somewhere. I have memories of dinosours with lazers on when I was a kid, kept it on the DL just in case someone tried to have me locked up..

Could try running some granulated Jurrasic Park samples through Razors Buzzsaw Vocoder. Everyone owes me royalties for reading that... |

It's just a detuned unison saw lead with pitch modulation. Can be done with an envelope, an LFO, automation, whatever. This is usually called a hoover patch. You can read more about it and it's origin on Wiki: Hoover sound - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There's a patch like it on Sylenth1 called Dominator which is after this track: And of course there's also this track which I'm sure they used the Sylenth1 patch for: I'm sure Skrillex has used the same exact patch before since he uses Sylenth1. I recently tried making my own with Massive and it sounded great.

| OMG!!! Someone took my freaking word!! They are way more awesome than me too so I doubt I can win it back in an awesomeness duel. :( At least I still have one edge on them.... Boobs ![]() Well, they might have man-boobs cuz I don't know what they look like, but it's my opinion that man-boobs suck and women boobs don't. |

Why don't you just go and sample an elephant blowing its nose and avoid the headache?
