| Gear Head | The KiNK sound?
Hello Guys, I am very impressed by a bulgarian artist called KiNK. I am trying to achieve a similar sound but to no success. For example all his percussion elements seem very wide and setereo. Also the punch in his kicks is extremely tight and feel like its right up to the point of clipping but still seems wicked tight. Here are some examples please share your thoughts. 1. KiNK - Bitter Sweet (liebe*detail 30) - YouTube - Kink - Bitter Sweet 2. Kink - Detunator - YouTube - Kink - Detunator 3. KiNK - Kiss The Sky - YouTube - Kinl - Kiss The Sky 4.Kink - The Big Payback (Original Mix) - YouTube - Kink - The big payback 5.KiNK "The Roots of Techno" Sharivari 003 - YouTube - Kink - Roots of techno. Please share your opinions. I know that he is a very talented producer as well, but there must be something else to that sound. Cheerz Last edited by 80sClash; 6th January 2012 at 03:28 AM.. I'm into but can appreciate the clean crisp sound. Yo.... go thru and sample chop up all his drums. Tweak them some for your set. Besides the drums & percs.... he has like 2 sounds going on. One dirty one clean.

3 words. Hardware. Funk. Soul. I wasn't aware Kink had a 'sound'. He just makes makes kick ass tunes. You've seen his Vermona videos right? .

Hardware, you'd be nearly 100% wrong: From his RA feature: "No, I've never used any hardware on my tracks. I learn what the behaviour of the hardware is. Later, on the computer, I emulate the behaviour. But I don't go with the hardware and tweak live and record. That's probably something I would like to do in the future, because the more I travel I have the chance to visit some great shops. For example when I was in Berlin I was in a very great shop called Schneider's Buero, and I bought a very cool small analog synthesizer called MFB Synth II. " RA: Machine love: KiNK - Interview There you go. Kink's techniques, at least at the time of this writing. I'd be surprised if he NEVER uses it, and perhaps is just bullshitting to throw people off...he nails the classic house analog vibes very well, while still inserting his own unique flavor and quite obviously some more complex maneuvers that would most easily be done with software, so it's fresh...no just retro rehash land. I bet he uses that reel to reel on his mixes.

| Lives for gear | well he has loads of videos of himself messing around with hardware on youtube.... http://www.youtube.com/user/kink303 Anyway who cares. He has a great sound because he's been honing his craft for a very long time. All these 'how to sound like' threads are boring anyhow. Who wants to sound like someone else, find your own methods and sound like yourself! Mind you I wouldn't mind having his hats on Detunator, I love that track ![]() . |

I don't use it all the time, but it's nice to have some programmable OTB analog drums. And the whole kit cost me right around $400 (and that was when the Euro was at like $1.40...I believe it's less now). Don't forget to budget a radio shack power adapter and some 1/8th adapters or cables to send the audio out. That and the lack of MIDI out (woulda been cool to have that sequencer for other things!) are my only gripes...but at the price, it's hard to bitch.

hey guys, kinky here i was looking for some feedback about my latest video and i ended up on this thread im so flattered that people who got knowledge about the audio production are discussing my stuff! Thank you! its pretty late here so im going to be short now, but ill check the thread later this week. I still use mainly a PC, one of the reasons is the software I use (Jeskola Buzz) cant handle well with recordings, longer than 1-2 bars. My workflow since the RA interview didnt changed much. However, I recorded several released tracks on tape, like "E79" on Ovum and "Trevoga" on Undertones (i recorded it on cassette as i remember). The tracks listed above are all digital. I bought some more analog machines since the RA interview, so far i use them for fun and shameless self-promotion on youtube but i really enjoy jamming with them, so if i become better - i might release some raw unedited recordings or just to think about a separate live show, more raw live composing sessions.. lets see what the future will bring |
