i have focal CMS65 and they bass response is great for dance music, and of course so is everything else about them. They are made of metal. I can't imagine needing a sub with them but one day i might get it just because. i compared them to Adams AX range, and well, there was no comparison. whatever you do be sure to also have a cheap, one-way mono speaker like the avantone mix cube or even a set of NS-10s if you have money for all that shit at once..

I auditioned the CMS65 today, along with the Neumann KH120 and the PSI A17M (which is quite a bit more expensive). The CMS65 is clearly a good speaker, but I felt that the Neumann is noticeably better: slightly more detailed and I found the stereo image clearly superior, with more spatial depth. They're certainly amazing speakers for the price and I'd prefer them over the Focals any day. Bass on the Neumanns is also very good. I didn't think the CMS65s outshone the Neumanns in this respect, but then I don't really do bass-heavy genres like dance. I'll probably end up going with the PSIs (but will sleep on it tonight). With those I don't think I'll ever need new monitor speakers again; they're awesome in every way. Having said this, the Neumanns are eerily close to the PSI in some respects, especially stereo image. |

TBH, once you get into the £400 per unit price range I would say it's just down to taste, that's my opinion anyway.

but i want to buy Event 20/20bas, Opals, Krk Vxt8, Quested S8R, V****, Neumann, JBL 6328, K&H, etc... just curiosity. i love A/B tests... there is no stores here to do a proper A/B test... i must buy & test. for a good A/B test, 1 week minimum.

These kind of threads probably won't be that helpful to the op. You will get recommendations for all monitors made. ![]() Your going to have to try a pair in your room. Take them back if you don't like them. Take notes on the ones you do like. After trying a few you like, keep the pair that fits you taste /needs the most. I've bought then sold so much gear based on others opinions on the net that it ain't funny. Your taste is YOUR TASTE! Sent from my PC36100 using Gearslutz.com |
