SO, why 'aftermarket' channel strip plugins

Alright guys, so just how necessary are some of these aftermarket channel strip plugins?

I use logic and it has just about everything all these aftermarket plugins I see on professional videos use, aside from maybe a multiband distortion plugin....
So whats really the point?

(That said a lot of the guys on the videos arent using logic..)

they sound different and or better. some people like what they offer.

you don't "need" them per se but once you use some new/other/different tool it's hard to stop using it if you like it.

I see that well that make sense, but do you have any recommendations of plugins that outperform logics usual compressors/distortion/reverb etc. or plugins in logic that are generally lacking

you are missing the point really. Unlike 10 years ago, the overall quality of plugins nowadays is quite good. So you are not looking for plugins that "outperform", or "are better" than other ones. You are looking for plugins that offer a "different sound", or different functionality, GUI, etc.

It's really about your own taste. For example i have compressors from PSP, EMI, URS, BX, Fabfilter, Elysia, DNR, Waves, Softube, and many more, and when i am processing sound i will try different compressors to see how they sound and interact with the sound.

That said, if you want to try different ones, there is Waves SSL 4000, SSL Nuende, Nomad Factory, DNR Collaborative, Waves Audio Track, etc.

Try searching for channel strip on kvraudio.com.

A company that can dedicate all its resources to research and development into a single topic will be likely to do a better job of it than a company which has to spread those resources over a whole range.

Also, they'll have more freedom in terms of releasing new versions, because Logic would look kind of silly with 6 reverbs (oldest version included to ensure backwards compatibility).

there is many that out perform them..
The whole third party plug in market lives from outperforming daw internal plugs.

There are even free ones that outperform them..

DAW´s provide a basic set you can work with..than its on you to find something that suits your personal taste better..or something that has a more expensive sound..

fab filter eq is better than the logic internal ones for example..
or an ohm boys echo more funky in the usage than the internal ones...

many options.. just dont try to have them all.. choose for some that get your sound forward and ignoire the rest..otherwise you will be a plug in tester for the rest of your life.

Exactly thanks, all the possibilities are pretty overwhelming so I'll try to use free trials and test them out.

So is it common practice to use these plugins for distorting/compressing etc. ur synths instead of using the options wired into the synths (like sylenth/massive's distortion, compression) as well? Or can you stack both

Yes. If it sounds good, do it.

What exactly is preventing you from doing exactly that?

Personally, I have purchased 3rd party plugs - psp, nebula, etc.

I find I go back to logics plugs. I love the compressor. I know it well and how to get the results I want. I love the delays, overdrive and bitcrusher.

Space designer is quite capable. The only other reverb I use is adverb when I want that sound it's easier to get it with that.

I know there are some awesome mastering grade plugs out there but I don't master my music.

I am however going to try cytomic the glue for bus work.
